    The £2,720 relates to a 5% return on £54,400.....FOR A WHOLE YEAR.
You need to divide the gigure by 365 to get a daily interest rate......which is a paltry £7.45.

I suspect that, with the transaction costs incurred and adverse publicity, Argos will not be regarding this as much of a coup for them.

    PS.
Got my email last night, cancelling my order and confirming the correct price at £349.99.

Darn it, you got there before I did! And yes, I would guess there are transaction costs invoved with refunding this many people. Plus the wo(man) hours invoved. Oh, and not forgetting IT costs. I don't think Homebase will be making a single penny out of this. In fact (which I'm sure will please a lot of people), they will loose money. I for one will look at this costing them money and therefore delaying/lessening any potential sale prices or bargain prices in the future - because any lossed they incur will be resolved by any poor offers they give in the future.

took money out of ACCOUNT,cancelation email and have a cancelation letter posted to me
  • argos has debited my account twice of £5.44...never ending mistakes in this Argos fiasco...I too got the email last night and to me they might as well said 'were !!!!!! off that you made our accidental error escalate and just as you have cause our company much inconvenience we will take your money any way and keep it for as long as we can before refunding it back to you!!

it was a joke to order in the first place..but it has highlighted the flaws in argos's order processing systems....they should learn from this and re-structure the whole order processing system...at least something positive would have come from this!

mmmn I'm very sceptical that this was in fact an error, just look at the attention it has brought the website. They do it too often and I too am sure safeguards could be in place to prevent these mistakes, how many people as a result of this will have visited the argos website, and how many of them may now buy something.............
  • Surely its about time one of the government offices offered a set of guidelines for online shopping. Nobody really seems to have a clue about when contracts are formed. It would solve a lot of problems if they produced a leaflet explaining what your rights are and whether once a company has charged your card whether they should supply the goods or not. The current leaflets seem to be rather ambiguous. Some places even seem to be making the rules up as they go along.

Out of interest, what is the difference to going into a shop and seeing a mispriced item, taking it to the till and paying for it on your card. Wouldn;t the shop be expected to give you it then?

if you was in a shop...a human will reconize there is a pricing mistake...a computer does not!

TO be honest with you I'm completely fed up with all these people who are complaining about :

    a) the money being taken from their account and expect despatch before taking payment
    b) expect them not to have taken the payment even though they have sent emails telling them of the mistake and offering the revised price
    c) receiving a cancellation email and proceed to argue this issue with Homebase till they're blue in the face, just in order to get a practically free TV.

Let's be honest here, we all gave it a go... and even I regret it because I've now lowered myself to try and obtain an extremely expensive item just because of a pricing error. But IS THERE ANYONE who thought they would actually receive it???? And more to the point, anyone who thinks complaining, persisting, whinging and having a go about this - either on this board or to Homebase, trading standards... even THE COURT are having an FLIPPING LAUGH.

If I went into Homebase and picked up a widescreen TV with the intention to purchase, took it to the till and it bleeped at 40p and the cashier didn't notice, I don't think I could go ahead any pay for that item and walk out that shop feeling happy. I would feel sick about doing it. After all, it'll be at least one persons job that will be lost just because of a simple (but expensive) pricing mistake. And all that those people who are persisting are achieving is getting someone sacked. Well to those who are - I HOPE YOU FEEL REALLY HAPPY WITH YOURSELVES.

I regret even placing the order for a TV. Not because of a paultry £5-odd that had been taken from my account (which I have every confidence will go back into my account sooner or later), but because I could be somewhat compared to the pathetic types on here who continue to persue this issue. Appologies to some if I said anything to offend in this post (at a language level) - but let be prewarn - I'll offer no apology to those who are the ones carrying on actually trying to get a TV.

This topic has been done to death. So just let it die.

I have just got this email from homebase.

Bush 28" Widescreen Integrated TV & DVD Recorder

I refer to your order for the above product and thank you for placing an order with Homebase.co.uk.

Unfortunately there were was an accidental error on the price shown on our website for this product during the period from midnight on 27th August to 0700 on 28th August, which caused the product to be advertised for £0.49 rather than the correct price of £349.99. This error has now been rectified and in accordance with Condition 4.2 of our Website Terms I am writing to advise you of this problem.

We have therefore had to reject all orders placed at the incorrect price in accordance with Condition 2.3 of our Website Terms and conditions and with regret we cannot accept your order.

On behalf of Homebase I apologise for the inconvenience caused and can assure you that we have initiated the refund process and where any charges have been debited to your payment card, they will be fully refunded as soon as possible.

Thank you again for your custom with Homebase.

    Yours faithfully

    Mari-Ann Wiggin

I've been to a few notable forums (eg DVD Reviewer, Digital Spy etc) and the Watchdog Brigade are up in arms all over the place.

Putting it into perspective so succinctly as Munki has done above makes me feel a little bit grubby for even contemplating taking this matter further, irrespective of my anger at Argos' shoddy handling of the situation.

For every failed Argos, there's a success elsewhere (and as a successful £100 Kodak DX3700 owner I'm living proof): I read at Reviewer that alarm bells started ringing on Saturday morning when someone placed an order for, get this, seventy TVs for goodness sake...

At least they're being honest about it and saying that its an error. I'll chalk this one down as a loss and will happily wait until the next one crops up.
