what it does do is prevent me having that money available to spend ..since my credit spending limit has been reduced by that amount ..
hence for a period of ..well until they cancel the order and my credit card company is told ...homebase from who I ordered the tv have in effect reduced my spending ability and as far as i am concerned surely that is in effect similar to accepting a payment.
ok I am chancing my arm but hey if you dont ask you never get ...was wondering what martin has to say about this whole affair
cheers

I think we are all wondering what Martin has to say!!
I never for one minute thought we'd get it, but stranger things have happenedIn this trusted place U can erase
Every tear that ever rolled down your weary face
All the time U waste in that paper chase
Is time better spent in these arms of mine0 -

Big Companies "screw" consumers for profits = Bad
MSEers screw consumers for even bigger profit margins than the "Big Companies" = Good
?
Am I missing something here ?
MSEers screw other MSEers for the sake of making a few quid on ebay = bad0 -

how do you work that out ?
So you are telling me that if you were in town tomorrow and saw a sooper dooper buy that you could make money on you would NOT buy the item because you are screwing others ?
People here are complaining about peeps trying to purchase ex amount of TV's, why is that so wrong ? This site is about making money after all and if people can make extra money then whats the problem ?
Edited to add : I might have worded my last paragraph not quite right, but you get my point ?0 -
Well whatever is going to happen we'll know in the next few days, won't we? Has anyone actually e-mailed them to ask the status of their order? Sorry if someone has asked this already but the thread is pretty long now.

When you ordered this TV, you had to agree to the terms and conditions set out by the company. These are very clear, and make it very plain that you are not entitled to this TV.
While I quite agree with you that nobody is going to see a 49p TV out of this, I wouldn't exactly agree that the phrase -
"Homebase Limited are responsible for your order but as part of the
Argos Retail Group, your order may be fulfilled by Argos Limited
(trading as Argos Direct)"
- is very clear, or very plain.
In addition, whilst I agree that Homebase/Argos have made a mistake, judging from the huge volume of postings here, they haven't exactly bust a gut to correct it - which must say something about just how carefully they monitor sales.
It rather suggests they either have a very poor monitoring system, or having realised their mistake (and probably with a very clear understanding of the law), have decided that it's not a priority to fix, as they quite obviously intend to cancel all the orders after the Bank Holiday when presumably it will be cheaper to sort out the mess with their normal staff, rather than pay anyone overtime to sort it out faster.
Anyway, assuming for a moment there aren't 1000's of 49p televisions on their way to us all, it would be nice on Tuesday if we were to receive an apology - which it wouldn't take a genius to write in a fairly light-hearted way - with the possible bonus being an extra discount (say £30-£50) off this particular product.
Instead, I expect we'll get a long, verbose, legal explanation of just exactly why we can forget it, which although will doubtless be technically and legally correct in every detail (strange how these companies can get things right when it suits them), will be a missed opportunity that will further alienate them from their customers, when a more human approach would probably leave 99% of all who have ordered more happy.
What amazes me is that despite all the research which proves that if you make a mistake, if you handle the mistake properly, you can actually convert your purchaser into one of your most loyal customers, most companies in this situation will effectively issue an email which boils down to one word - "tough"0 -

Really ? I notice it is called "moneysavingexpert.com", not "moneymakingexpert.com" or "ripoffothermsersviaebay.com" !0 -
I have been on the phone earlier to my legal department that i have cover with through my house insurance. They offer legal advice and solicitors to take things to court if need be. They told me that because the money has been taken Homebase has a binding contract to deliver and they will be in breach of contract if they fail to deliver. I keep checking to see if i have a cancellation email but as yet i dont. I had the order confirmation email at 8.31pm Saturday night and the money has been taken from my bank account (actually taken and is with Hombase, not reserved). Will see what happens. I agree with what people are saying on here about the low price and how can you expect to get it which i agree with in principle but as they have taken the money from my account that is when i think they should follow through. If not they shouldnt have taken the money.0

Did you not see the bit I added on ? I edited my post to add I may have worded it wrong "but you get my drift". I did this because I realised after I posted that I had worded it wrong and the site was not about making money.
So again I ask you because you didnt answer my question: Are you telling me that if you are in town and saw a great bargain that you knew you could make money with you would not do it because you are screwing others ?
Yeah right.....ok.0
