Anne - they are just wind-up merchants, look at their post history and see where they have given useful advice - I'm betting you won't find much different from the pedantic comments displayed in this thread.

.... I'm sorry, I don't see the point you are making. Are you saying it's not right to disagree if you read a palpable error, especially when someone (or some institution) is being accused of theft?

Frankly I can't see any difference between those parking machines which only allow fixed periods of time, and something like booking a squash court, where you pay for an hour's use, only play for half an hour, and then demand your money back for the unused time.

You've possibly missed the point - if you went into a leisure centre and the court rates were £4 and you paid with £5 note you would expect change (not an extension of court time)

On a parking meter that charges £1.80 for a period of parking and you put in a £2 coin, it isn't unreasonable to expect that that the over-payment is pro-rata'd up as extended parking if the change facility has been disabled.

 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

... the product on sale is a half-hour parking slot. The charge is £1.80 for a half hour parking slot, so have £1.80 ready. If you choose not to, don't call it theft. It's not theft.

I really can't see what the issue is.

Personally, I took the original post to be a vent

As for the stealing, I didn't interpret that literally, but as the idiomatic expression 'daylight robbery'.

If I were you Mr Ajaxgeezer, I would report him to the Council for slanderous comments. How very DARE he use the word theft without apostrophes!

I've never called it theft, the OP did to vent his frustration as a consumer (hmmmm - now where on this page have I seen those words before?????)

I (you?) may say when using a vending machine that it has stolen the money (when it doesn't dispense the product preoperly) as a figure of speach, I don't mean it literally (would you?), but likewise if I was telling somebody about it in person, I wouldn't punctuate the word with my fore and middle fingers - I'd just assume that they hold the intelligence to realise that what I was saying is I've not got (fully) what I have paid for.

Do you always have the exact change for every procuct or service you purchase ajax?

... I never said you did, I am going on the OP. If it's a consumer vent then fine (underlined italicised bolds really not necessary), but if he doesn't truly think that it's theft then I'm not interested any more to be honest lol. It was the theft in the headline that grabbed my attention away from what you may (or at least appear to from a previous post) consider to be one of the less useful threads on here but is important to me.

.. hypothetical, I'd never go to the trouble of putting a 20p shortfall in print so can't answer.

If I know I'm not getting change then yes I do try to. On the odd occasion I make the mistake of knowing the rules and not being prepared for them then I accept that it's exactly that - my mistake.

I'll wait to see if the OP meant genuine theft or pretend theft before I post again, as one of the options makes all of this very dull and uninteresting to me. It would be irksome to know he wasn't serious.

I would imagine that Mr Ajax, given the fine upstanding citizen that he is, goes nowhere without his little purse of small change ;)

    Really? I won't.

As I just said, if it's simply a case of the original post not being easy to read then it's a bit boring to me. I'll wait to see if he meant it first or whether he didn't.

Clearly they are necessary as you still appear to be questioning the purpose of the board.
