Pay & Display Stealing Money

That tends to be because I'll write the truth about a situation!
You were banging on about it being theft. Everyone knows what to do when they've had something stolen!
Or is this your way of finally admitting it's not really theft!
Is that constructively or didn't disagree with you?
Firstly ukdim go back and count how many times I "banged on" about it being theft. I think you will find that in my original post, and nowhere else, I said they steal money if you dont have the exact money to buy time in 30 min intervals.
Secondly I hadn't made a point to be agreed or disagreed with - I merely asked what people thought about it.
You continue to show more ignorance and a propensity to make irrelevant comments.0 -
It doesn't matter if you talked about theft once or twenty times. The fact is you used the word to blow something out of proportion.
Pointing this out to either yourself or others is not ignorance or irrelevant. You got what I thought about it! Why can't people just say things without the need for exaggerating?
What is ignorance is calling another opinion ignorance simply because you don't like it. I rarely use the word ignorance myself unless questioning it's use such as in this post. What seems to be apparent is people who use the word seem to be quiet ignorant themselves as they use the word in a defensive manner rather than actually considering it's actual meaning or using a more appropriate word.Firstly ukdim
Like I say I don't like to use the word ignorance in a thread or at all unless questioning it's use...............but need I say more!0 -
First off behave children
I recently went to Abingdon (I think) and their pay and display machines gave you exactly the amount of time for the money you put in. I couldn't help but think what a clever machine, and if it could do it why couldn't all the others? How many times do we park up and find that we don't have the exact change, especially if you are somewhere unfamiliar. It certainly seems fairer to me that you get the amount of time you paid for - not 30 minute blocks!!!
I usually seem to manage to close threads - I wonder if it will work with this one.:rotfl:0 -
:TSorry a pointless post just to reach 100!!0

Looks like I killed this thread then!!!:rolleyes:0

My local council have old and newer machines, the newer ones work out the exact time you pay for, the old ones don't but the council parking attendants have a chart that works out the exact time you have paid for, and they work it out and round the time UP to the next minute.baldly going on...0 -

Another good point - all the tickets I have seen are printed with the ammount of money taken so it should be fair to argue for it to be pro-rata if you get a ticket for over-staying by a few minutes of the ticket time but I don't think all councils do this.
MPI have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

...it has to do with why the council won't give you the correct amount of time for the money you put in.
I'm not sure I understand you, but feel free to correct anything i've misinterpreted. They charge a set price per half hour right? They don't give change and you want to pay £4 and get the value of £4 parking, despite it not being divisible to a whole number by £1.80. Where do you stop, do you start arguing about another 30 seconds being added onto the ticket if you throw in another 3p? I've honestly never seen a ticket machine that operates in the way it appears you're suggesting.
If your point is a general "why can't they just charge a per minute rate so that what I pay isn't vastly more than if I hhd the correct change" then I can at least see where you're coming from but you know, just say that, don't come along suggesting something dodgy is going on and as I say they have to pick some way of setting the price, they've chosen half hour slots whilst most that I've used have set prices at different rates for 20mins, an hour, 2 hours then 2+ hours, i've never expected that if I only want to stay 19minutes that I should get a 5% discount on the 20 minute price.Bought, not Brought0 -
Unbelievable.
It's not the council's obligation to come up with variable parking times to exactly match the change in your pocket on any given day. The council sell parking slots of 30 mins, and the cost for that is £1.80. The answer, quite plainly therefore, is to take along £1.80 per half hour. It's not like you don't know the policy now, is it?
The biggest bus company around here has a payment system whereby the customer drops the correct fare into a secure chute; no change is given. To get from my house to the Birmingham terminus costs £1.30 - using your logic, if I don't have £1.30 and only have a £2 coin, I should demand that they extend my journey to Solihull on a pro-rata pence-per-mile basis shouldn't I? Anything else would be theft.0 -
the ticket machine at my local hosp gives change but the 1st tier charge is £1-60 for up to 4 hours ,as im only usually there for half an hour maybe i should complain ! i think not ! if i was that outraged over a few pence id get the bus !!!This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
