You need to check your sync speed, which is on the router config screen to give you an idea what speed connection you are on, a download tester result doesn't help you determine that.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Who has suggested a 'download tester'?0

How would you do this? Thanx.Happiness is not having what you want...but wanting what you have!!!0 -
if you are on adsl, not cable, don't bother switching your router off, especially avoid resets at night when the snr traditionally drops due to MW and EM radiation. the line can take up to 10 days to stabalise, and as has been said, 'up to' is based on the laws of physics, often it is not down to an isp just being bad., though perhaps in VMs case exceptions can be made. if you are on cable, you should be achieving the full speed (minus often terrible contention in some areas) almost immediately.Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

I am on ADSL..there is no cable in my area. When Virgin became virgin media..the adsl package was £14.99 for up to 2mbs..and £17.99 for up to 8mbs.
Virgin confirmed to me that i was paying £17.99 and getting up to 2mbs instead of up to 8mbs...they also checked the line and said it was capable of taking up to 8mbs.
I have tried to go down the road of comp and a refund of the diffrence...One of the virgin staff said they dont know why this had not been flagged up before, but then another one said it was my choice to stay on the package when it changed over and it was up to me to ring up and get it changed.
so do i need to test the speed of my router? How do you do this?
Thanx for all the replies.Happiness is not having what you want...but wanting what you have!!!0 -

I usually always unplug my router at night any way. Shouldnt i be doing this?Happiness is not having what you want...but wanting what you have!!!0 -
Check your router stats but the 377kbps~~ upload shows that you are on ADSL max, be patient and it may slowly improve depending on your line stats/distance form the exchange/quality of cable etc. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

This is the email they just sent me..
Line Speed: Up to 8192 Kbps
If you have requested a broadband speed upgrade:
Your new broadband speed upgrade is now active on your phone line. For it to take effect, you need to reboot your computer and reconnect to Virgin Broadband. If you use a router, you will need to reboot your computer and router and reconnect to Virgin Broadband.
If you have ordered, or are upgrading your line to Virgin Broadband up to
8 Mbps:
If you have ordered our up to 8 Mbps service, there are a couple of things that you need to know. Please spend a few minutes reading through the links below:
* Why do not I receive my fastest line speed as soon as my account is activated?
You will notice that when your account is activated, the line speed will slowly creep up to the maximum speed your phone line can handle. This can take a few hours. It will then fluctuate for about 10 days whilst we test your line to work out the maximum speed your phone line can handle whilst still providing a reliable service.
* Restarting your router:
If you use a router, we recommend that you try to restart it once a week to ensure that you are receiving the highest speeds possible.
