Cleaning a sofa

We've got a new (for us, really third hand) couch and chairs today but they've got a few marks on. It's made of velour (according to the wife) and smells a little bit of smoke. How can it be cleaned?? Any ideas welcome! Thanks.

For spot stains I've always found 1001's trigger spray excellent. It's meant for carpets but I've used it on fabrics too.0
