Just tried Mickey Monk's method at my local branch. First I was told a definite "no", even though I gave the clerk a printout of the form. Finished up filling in another form - one designed for ISA top-ups from another Barclays account, though I bank elsewhere - and sending it through their internal post with my cheque. Clerk didn't guarantee success, though.

If Barclays' admin wheels grind to a noisy halt, blame me and the bank clerk for using the wrong form.

My dads 08/09 account was opened yesterday, i dont consider this to be fair as he submitted his application 2 weeks after i submitted mine. Were both existing barclays customers and it appears that they arent opening the accounts in the order in which they recieved the applications. I applied for mine the day that it was launched and my dad applied 2 weeks after me and has had his opened before me - where is the logic in this?

Were there any other differences in your applications eg different branches? In any case, if interest really is backdated you haven't lost out.

Ten working days since handing chqs in to branch and no sign yet Barclays want the money.

Fifteen working days now and the Barclays behemoth still hasn't bestirred itself.

I think there's a lesson here. All institutions suffer a mad rush at the end of the tax year as far as Cash ISAs are concerned, so it's better to apply at least two months before the end of any tax year, and let a month pass by before applying for one in the new tax year to avoid worrying about your cheques disappearing into limbo or losing interest. Having said that, I applied for my Hargreaves Lansdown 08-09 equity ISA about four days into this new tax year and had everything confirmed (with two different funds being purchased ) and up and running within a week. (And that included having to liquidate non tax protected unit trusts to fund the transfer of money into the ISA). Well done Hargreaves Lansdown! Excellent customer service as usual.

Barclays still haven't opened my account even though I applied over the phone a week (maybe longer) before the account was due to open and my account is still not open. I don't think I will bother next year grrrrrr

I'm still waiting for the money to transfer from my current account into my tax haven ISA, I was also told (like many others) that it would take upto 15 days to transfer but the 15 working days was up on the 25th so I'm hoping that it'll be sorted this week ?

I rung them yesterday to transfer more money into my ISA after i noticed it had appeared on my online banking, haven't recieved the letter yet by the way - last year it was at least 3 weeks after the account had been opened before i recieved the letter - but if you have online banking you can get the sort code and account number from there, or if you dont have online banking just ring them and im sure they will give you the sort code and account number after passing secuirty.

When i was on the phone they told me that they have only just started opening the accounts from last thursday/ friday onwards for the 08/09 tax year, the adviser said they are hoping to have most of the them opened within the next 2/3 weeks.

    Hope this helps
