I opened an account on 1st of April for the 07/08 year (last year). They opened the acoount and took the money from the account on the 10th of April .... I hope they wont consider that it's for this year.
I have the letter from them on the 3rd saying that they took my request but due to high demand it will take a few days.
What do you think is it the account for last year? It's my first ISA so I haven't understood why it takes so long. I can now start putting the 3600 for this year in it? (I don't have that much yeat.... but I hope in a few months)0 -

Barclays ISAs last year and this year have been the Best ISA table toppers atleast in terms of interest offered. But the flip side is that they have horrible service standards. Last year mine was set up only in 3rd week of may though I applied early.
This year also I applied the day the Tax Haven ISa was launched and still waiting!!.
If you gave your cheque in before 5th April then even if barclays have encashed it late its their problem. Your account will be opened as last years ISA.:beer::beer:0 -
So has anyone had an 08/09 Tax Haven ISA opened yet? I applied in mid-March and have had nothing since the first letter, and it doesn't appear in my online banking account (which I assume it will once set up?)0

Well now I am back from Norway, I haven't even received this first letter everyone mentions. I went down to the branch in mid-March for reference. I'll probably head to Barclays to just make sure.0 -
Opened mine on 9 April (Branch visit.) Recently received standard holding letter. I wouldn't be bothered about the delay since I was assured I would get interest from the opening date. But I rushed in with only £20 to deposit. I'm sadder and wiser now - should have waited until I had the full amount, which is now twiddling its thumbs in a taxed instant access account. However hard up you are, never accept loans from your friends. Update....
Finally got through to Barclays......
They said "Your ISA will be opened in the 08/09 tax year and the interest will be back dated"
I asked when it will be opened and they repeated "Sometime in the 08/09 tax year"
So all I know is that it will be "sometime" before the 6th April 2009 :rotfl:
I'm not bothered really, as I'm earning double-bubble at the moment. The ISA money is offset against my mortgage and
as the interest will be back dated, I'm getting the equivalent of 12.7% interest.0 -
But when they say interest will be backdated, does that include money that I pay in once the account is finally opened? I only used a £1 deposit to open the account so I obviously don't care about the interest on that!0

I'm sure it doesn't, trilby. I'm in the same boat. However hard up you are, never accept loans from your friends. Just gifts0 -
Opened my 2008/09 Tax Haven ISA on 6th April, got the holding letter dated 7th. Phoned them last Friday to be told that my account needed 'management validation'. been a Barclay's customer for 20 years!
Went to the branch, and as I suspected they knew nothing about it but took copy driving license to send up to Liverpool. Now need to contact Liverpool again and still no nearer to getting my deposit near to the £3,600 as I only opened it with £10.
Incidentally I called 01452 6289910 -
If you go into a Barclays branch you can pay in your cheque to "top up" your ISA even though the account isn't open yet..
The branch staff should write on the back of the cheque your customer number, National Insurance number and also date stamp it.
Once the account is finally open, interest will be backdated to the date stamped date.
They should complete form SID_11_11_479.
