  • She rang up Barclays and they told her to go to the branch... I'm guessing they didn't have a record of it there.
  • Thought I'd just give an update. Girlfriend went down and they put a note on her account the ISA processing people will see, so that her cheque is paid into the last tax year which is great! :)

I applied for the tax haven ISA for 08/09 in early March. I did everything online and requested they just open it with £1 (which I keep available in my current account).
There is still no sign that it has been opened.

Has anyone else had their new ISA opened yet?

I requested they transfer out my old ISA (tax beater) from 07/08 to A&L last week, and they have already started doing that it seems (the account has vanished from my online banking list).
Strange they process some things quickly and others so slowly.

I did mine in branch as I don't have any other Barclays accounts so couldn't do it online. Filled in the forms on 9th April. Today I received a letter, dated 11th April so they're obviously a bit behind with dealing with them, which stated:

    "We've received your ISA application..........................

Due to the high demand for this product, it may take longer than we would like to process your application. However, be assured that if we do encounter any problems with your application we will either telephone or write to you.

Once your ISA application has been successfully processed we will be sending you a Welcome Pack.............."

So they are being dealt with but there is obviously a backlog due to high demand (again!).

This, for us, is better than last year with the Tax Beater as we never had any acknowledgement that it was up and running at all. We eventually got the branch to check and print us off an entry report (as confirmation for our own peace of mind) and then we had an official statement after 6 months.

They did include contact details on the letter if you are interested and want to enquire about yours:

Might not be any help but I opened a Tax Haven ISA 30th March for 07/08, as well as it being opened around the 6th Apr I've also had my £3600 transferred into the account for the 08/09 tax year. Everything moved fairly swiftly for me considering how late I left it.

I opened mine ready in advance in my branch, im a barcleys customer and the manager set mine up for the money to come from my esaver directly where it is at the moment so earning a little intrest while waiting. I rang them yesterday as still not opened but was assured the intrest will be back dated (so getting intrest in e saver too..so double bubble) and the account should be opened within the next couple of weeks.

Well i must of been one of the first to open the 08/09 account i rung the savings and investments helpline on the day that the tax haven isa was launched and did the application online - well over a month on and it still hasnt been opened! I have recieved the letter that they are sending to everyone and rung the other day to complain i was just told that they are still opening 07/08 accounts and haven't started with the 08/09 accounts yet

Well done barclays for getting things so right again! You would think after last year they would try and improve things dramatically - some improvements have been made like the letter that they are sending to people - but in my opinion actions speak lounder than words and i would rather have the account opened so i can add the remaining £3599 than have a letter to say that it will be opened soon!

Seriously what do you not understand?

    Read my post!

They cannot start applications until 6th April. So no matter when you applied before this date they cannot do anything!

Because lots of people did the same as you they started the process of all the applications for 08/09 on the 7th April, the first working day of the tax year.

Since then it hasn't even been 2 weeks.

I was told I should expect to wait around 2 weeks after the new tax year for everything to be sorted. When is this you ask? Well the 21st. So expect accounts to start opening around then!!!!!
