Agreed. Fine an Isa transfer form contains a fair bit of information, but nothing like enough for someone to actually be able to access your accounts with. If you're that worried you can shell out the extra fiver or so for special delivery, but it's cheaper to wait for the transfer to show up on your Icesave account as confirmation that it's got there. Special delivery/recorded is no more likely to be delivered than normal 2nd class, so not worth it for this sort of stuff.

    really?.......

custardy didn't actually say this, but Special Delivery surely is best for anything that absolutely must arrive the next day, and it does get special treatment. It's expensive and I have only needed to use it once.

Recorded Delivery ["Signed for"] goes with normal mail, but is useful for being able to check on line that the item has been delivered, and it does provide limited compensation.
I use Recorded Delivery frequently - for instance - when enclosing share certificates, as for 72p the compensation covers the cost of a replacement certificate.

I am usually satisfied with the Recorded Delivery service, but was a bit annoyed once when after Royal Mail were unable to confirm delivery, they refused to refund my 72p. :(

    this is a common problem.
i put it down to the paper based system
they new pda's are due to be brought into full use soon(ish) so hopefully this will be addressed

This all depends on how much you value your personal information; and I value mine. ID theft is the fastest growing crime in the UK; and only a fool would ignore the threat. Of course special delivery is more likely to be delivered; it's handled seperately, and tracked all the way. It would be a few quid well spent in my book.

Guess I'll have to ring royal mail to find out for sure if they can deliver special delivery mail to a PO BOX... Who would sign for it?!

So do you reckon that icesave's PO Box address is where icesave are actually based then? - I need to know if it could be signed for at that address by icesave..

    i just did a check on the postcode(NE28 5AL)
    that refers to segedunum crecent
    http://maps.google.com/maps?client=opera&q=NE28+5AL&ie=UTF8&oe=utf-8&ll=55.003267,-1.51643&spn=0.000846,0.002044&t=h&z=19&iwloc=addr

looks resisdential to me ,so either it will be delivered with the normal mail or they collect in person.(track and trace will show if its held for po box collection)
    i deal with about 1000 sd's a day going to po box's
feel free to call rm if for some reason you think its an issue

Having sent two ISA application forms (my own & my partner's) to Icesave in February - simply via their Freepost address, I found that both were received & dealt with promptly, without any of this angst about Special Delivery/Recorded Delivery.

Both ISAs have since been transferred from Icesave to higher-interest-paying Fixed Rate acconts, again promptly and with no problems.

Thank you. It looks like icesave have a nice house! I guess someone from icesave would have to collect a special delivery from royal mail; which may cause delays. I think some people are missing my point here. Granted, 99.9% of applications will arrive without problems, but I bet a few have gone missing. At least with a special delivery you'd know quickly that it had arrived...... or not:eek: . Personally, I'd rather spend a couple of quid for that peace of mind.

On the basis of the Google Maps image but not on the basis of Multimap (which has been around much longer and has always been found to be accurate by myself)
it looks more likely to be an industrial/business park area, to the South-West of the residential area: http://www.multimap.com/maps/?hloc=GB|NE28%205AL
