  • Hi all,

I thought some OSers might be able to advise me on how to get mould out of a dress I have. According to the lable the dress is 100% acetate and is dry clean only. (Which BTW is news to me as I thought I had bought a satin/silk dress and that acetates were sometyhing that you photocopied onto for presentations)

Will dry cleaning do the trick? Or make it worse? Or is there something else I should try?

    Thanks.

100% acetate can be tricky:D As it says dry clean only, I'd pobably take it to the cleaners for advice. If they say the mould won't come out, you've nothing to lose by trying hand washing. The problem with acetate is that it can crease to b*ggery, and distort into the bargain. On the other hand sometimes it washes beautifully. Don't think I've been much help, sorry:o

  • Hi,

thanks for that Churchmouse - I think you are right I will let the dry cleaners have a go and keep my fingers crossed.

Just wondered if I can remove mould from Fabric.
We have an old pushchair which was in the shed and it has mould stains on the seat.
I wanted to take the old pushchair on holiday with us as it is very small and compact (unlike the very large day to day one I use).
I'm not really bothered if the fabric gets damaged.
    Any ideas?

  • Oh I would love to know this too. We have a bit of mould on our yucky fabric shower curtain. I have tried all sorts. Any secrets?
Anyone fancy buying my degree? It will only cost you £18k.

Miltons usually works - mix some up in a spray bottle as per the instructions and spray on and leave tp dry. It might take a few goes.

You might find it removes some colour from the fabric, so do a test first.

    Good luck!

i have found that if the mould spore has been there for a while nothing will work, as it has started 'eating into the fabric' so to speak....

i would also love to find something to get rid of it, but if i am correct mould is a living organisim, like mould on cheese/food etc...

    Hi,
Has anyone managed to get mould stains out of fabric?

I took my baby's jacket out of the cupboard today and found it covered with mould - it's one of my favourites so don't really want to throw it away but I know mould is very hard to get rid of.
First thing I thought was to soak it in some disinfectant but I've now got it in some stardrops solutions until I decide what to do next.

I've read lemon juice and salt can work but I haven't got any lemon juice so wanted to see if anyone had tried it before I go buy some!
