  • Thanks to the tips on this board, one of my items has sold today. One currently has bids on and the other still has a few days left to run.

If I hadn't read these pages I would have possibly been stung by a foreign bidder trying to buy, when I clearly stated that I would not ship overseas.

So to all you who posted the advice here

    THANKYOU

Have been selling on ebay now for about 5 years, here's a few things you might find useful

Those if you who have tried turbo lister...have a look at AUCTIVA
http://www.auctiva.com/ it cuts my listing time down by at least 50%. Don't be discouraged by it looking a bit complicated, the tutorial is excellent, even for a "blonde" like me. Easy to make your listings look really professional and even gives you an instant ebay charges so you can change things if it's too expensive

the postage thing, I found a super site, it's free but you can make a donation (yup...I did, it's a real money/time saving site compared to the royal mail one)
    http://www.seajays.org.uk/postage/
I also always offer items to Europe, this increased my sales by about 20% and it's easier than you think

If I am selling anything above £10, I ALWAYS add 1st class recorded delivery it only costs another 72p. I have learned the hard way there are a lot of "scam" buyers who will insist they didn't get their items and you are NOT covered by a "proof of postage"
Also remember...ebay do not charge a fee for the Post & packing charges . If you think high postage is a scam..just add it up. If the seller doesn't pay a fee for the extra...the buyer doesn't end up losing either, just make sure the TOTAL amount is what you would pay for an item.

the cheap listing days...don't forget , every seller who lists is a buyer too...i.e. more people browsing around sites when they have listings on therefore more buyers around at that time

Wrapping. Make it as attractive as you can, remember a special Xmas prezzy always looks more impressive, makes buyers remember you

    Descriptions
Unless you want to answer 50 emails per item, always describe your item FULLY from the thread to the needle ... and you will still get questions . Always answer even the daftest questions, from my experience friendliness sells many , many more items

Hope these tips are a help , if anyone wants any advice at all, please just ask, I've made more mistakes than I care to remember and would love to prevent anyone else the stress I've gotten myself into . I got a lot of help by just emailing sellers, they're a helpful lot, even if you're not buying their items
  • great thanks ^
  • You can try differentiation by changing business model and rent out your inventory instead of selling it. You can earn better profits.

A good site offering free ads and no commissions (as it should be on Ebay) is hirejungle.co.uk. It worked for me!

It seems to be a new startup but they have done a decent job. I heard they are launching US site hirejungle.com soon.

  • one method I've used on how to make money on ebay is that I always put in " free shipping". Well, except of international buyers (They pay for shipping and their customs tax), for domestic transactions, I always put free shipping just to save them the hassle of computing and thinking about it.
