Tips for selling on Ebay

  • How to put free photos in your eBay listings:

First, you will need some webspace - your ISP might provide free webspace as part of your deal, or there are plenty of other providers of free webspace out there.  You are going to hotlink to a photo stored in this webspace so make sure that you don't pick a host that disallows hotlinking.  (I've heard of people using Auctionpix and Photobucket, I think, though I've not tried them myself as I have my own site.)  Upload your photo to this webspace and make sure you know the URL (web address).

Enter your item description in the eBay text box as usual. In a separate browser window, go to the photo that you want to insert.  Right click on the photo, select "copy", go back to your eBay item description and paste it in. It should appear in the description.

In the HTML version of the description it shows up as <IMG src="">, and you can do it directly this way if you like.

Note that if you delete the photo from the other webspace then it will also disappear from your listing, so don't delete until the listing has ended.

My tip is simple. To avoid chargebacks on your payments account use nochex. The terms they apply to buyers are frankly unfair and buyers don't even need to signup if the item is less than £100. But at the end of the day your a$$ is covered ;)
  • My tips are make the description short and simple, in a largish font and a pleasant colour.
When I am searching for something I never bother with long descriptions, if there is a specification for the item provide a link to the manufacturers website.
Popular items can be started at 0.99p and have 1 or 3 day listings...items that will attract few bidders need longer and the "first bid" must be set to the minimum that you are prepared to accept in case the item attracts only 1 bid.

  • for packaging for sending items up to a3 size i would recommend that you visit your main town post office!

they have special delivery bags in different sizes free for customers ( these are usually situated on a small shelf either next to where people que or where u can obtain post office forms etc)...which if your turn inside out so to hide any royal mail logos or postal instructions which is important to do!

u can then use these bags as waterproof packaging for items..they are very tough and resisitant too...saves buying brown paper etc!

Clearly state when people should pay! leave 3-7 days!! so everyone knows where they stand!

  • I have just listed two mobiles and a first edition book on ebay, will see how they get on. Think I'll forget about them for a couple of days, I might get obsessive about watching them otherwise and worrying if they don't start to attract bids :-/
