Gosh - what a long and useful thread!

Coming out for just four days over the May bank holiday (1st - 4th)

Staying at the THe Mirador Papagayo (formerly Iberotel Papagayo)- fingers crossed I've picked a good hotel.

I do have a couple of questions - firstly about walking (we will not have a hire car)

How long to walk from the hotel to the Papagayo beaches? Looks to be less than 15 minutes? Would that be about right? And i assume these are better than the beaches at Playa Dorada?

And then how long to walk to the Marina from the Hotel - again looks to be about 15 minutes on Google maps - assuming that there is a seaside path all the way! ... and then another 15 minutes to Playa Dorada?

We are half-board but in the evening after our meal we would probably not stay in the Hotel - best to go to Playa Dorada or Playa Blanca itself for Bars - don't want nothing too clubby tbh, just a nice atmosphere and reasonably priced drinks?

Finally any must do tourist attractions on the island - thinking the Volcano only - but given that we only have two full days (Sat/Sun) and the market is on Saturday and no organised half-day coach tours seem to run on Sunday, we may need to give this a miss. Would this be stupid .. i.e. is it a must-see!!

Really enjoyed our holiday a few years back, would be happy to go back.

We stayed at the hotel prior to it being changed to Holiday Village (Flamingo?).

Really loved the hotel and it's surrounding areas.

Was great walking along that lovely beachfront into the small town.

Wife thought it was a bit breezy, lol, but that's what they do say about the Island.

Was great watching the fireworks over in Fuerteventura.

We've booked a private apartment at Flamingo Beach for later this year, looks like a great place to be based for a week or two, great views if the photos are anything to go by and south facing to boot :)
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Yeah some of the rooms will have great views, ours was good too, granted we were on an upstairs apartment.

It looks great now with the little waterpark area for the kids.

Did enjoy the Chinese restaurant and Steakhouse they had, had a bouncy castle on the roof too for the kids which was great, I don't believe they will still be there, although could be wrong.

Was the loveliest walk into the town, nice and flat too.

The little harbour with all the restaurants was fab too.

  • Very happy to stumble across this fantastic thread of yours Elle!

I am hoping to move out to Lanzarote next year and I'm loving the feel of Playa Blanca. I'm part of a female singing duo and we would love to gig abroad. I was wondering if you have any advice about doing this in Lanzarote? Another thing I'm looking at is selling artwork and photography (of local scenes) at markets/craft fairs. I noticed on your earlier post there are markets and a craft fair each week, and I wondered how I'd go about finding out about selling at these? Any info you're kind enough to share would be greatly appreciated!

Have a large glass of ice cold white wine for me! x
  • Hi everyone! Apologies for my tardiness in replying - I wasn't getting notifications... but hopefully they will kick in again now I've posted today.

jenny4w - did you get sorted?

Just had to say this fabulous woman is a mine of extremely useful pre holiday information especially on where/what to eat !

As a contribution to this excellent thread I'll add some info about Airport pickups which we've been handed but which I cannot post because MSE wont allow links in messages. So just search lastminute-transfer Lanzarote.
  • Thanks for your kind words Andythetraveller - it's been a pleasure helping you out.

MSE won't let you post links yet because you're still new.

Here's the link for others though: http://www.lastminute-transfer.com/
