Hi can anyone help, my partner and I wish to travel to NYC end July begining of August and also travel by Train into Canada
I know we need to fill in the ESTA, however the question about Tupeable or whatever it is lol criminal record etc is throwing me out, basically when my partner was 15 (he is 43 now and never been in any bother), he was with some friends that started a fire at the rear of a local shop and they had to go to Juvenile court, he got a conditional discharge, does this mean he still has a crimanal record? how can we check?
supposing the ans is yes he has a criminal record how do we apply to go to the states?
sorry if they are silly questions, but not having travelled to the US/Canada before I want to make sure we get it right.2007 £1749
2008 £291.99
2009 JanMasscara £7.00 Feb megcabot books x 2 £20 XFactor tkts x 2 £58.00 (couldn't go though as they only phoned on day :-( ) foundation £7.99
total so far for 09 £92.990 -

It depends what he was arrested and convicted for.
Arson is a crime involving moral turpitude, so if he was arrested for that he can't use the VWP.
Get a copy of his ACPO certificate, NOT the police certificate as that would only state "no live trace".
Due to the fact he was a juvenile at the time then the visa would be easier to obtain.0 -
sorry to be thick but how do I get a copy of his ACPO certificate, and what will this show?
Many thanks in advance2007 £1749

Googling this suggests the ACPO Certificate *is* the Police Certificate - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/europe/united-kingdom.asp
I do wish the "main" MSE page on ESTA would mention the valid duration. I had to go hunt, and found friends had done the same: essentially it must be valid the date you go into the US, but can happily expire before you return with no problem - https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/1126/~/esta---length-of-approvalPlan for tomorrow, enjoy today!0 -
I'm wondering if anyone will know what to do here?
Basically, I'm getting married next year and have booked our honeymoon to the USA in my married name, once we told people we were going to the USA they told us about the ESTA, which we'd never heard of! My problem is we get married on the Saturday and fly out on the Tuesday at dinner time leaving us with 70 odd hours from when we get married until we fly. What do I do? Do I try to get the ESTA before our ceremony using what will be my married name? Do I ask our wedding venue to allow us to use therir computer for ten minutes after our ceremony and leave our guests? (strange request, I know) Or do I chance it and wait until the next day which is much less than the 72 hours?
Your advice would be much appreciated....0 -
What name will be in the passport you will be using? The ESTA must match that.0

What will the name in your passport be? According to the U.S. Customs & Border Protection website:
For citizens of the United Kingdom: If you have applied for a Post-dated passport that will not be valid until after your marriage, you will not be able to apply for ESTA using that passport number until the day of your marriage, when the passport becomes valid. We recommend that you have a friend or relative apply for you if you do not have time between the ceremony and going to the airport. The application process is not complicated and should take no more than 10 minutes.
.......If you have a passport under one name, but your name has changed since it was issued, you can apply for ESTA using your old passport number and new name. You may also travel with a ticket issued in your new name and the passport in your old name, but we strongly recommend you bring a copy of your marriage license, divorce decree or other legal document showing the connection between your new name and the one on your passport.

dzug1 is absolutely correct in what he says. Your passport must match your ESTA (as must your airline tickets).
Will your passport be in your current name or your married name?
Take a look at the official Home Office website on this subject
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Passports/Howtochangethenameonyourpassport/DG_174165
Here they give advice on booking holidays in your married name (or not).
Once you have that sorted then - here is a link to the official ESTA website
https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/esta.html
The charge is US$14 - do not pay a cent more!
There are a lot of websites out there trying to con you into paying over the odds when in fact the process is very straightforward.
There is a comprehensive Help section on the site but nothing specifically about weddings/name changes etc. What it does say is that if you change your passport number then you need to reapply for a new ESTA.
Hope this helps.0 -

See if you can use the computer at the venue or ask a trusted friend who you know will fill it in properly for you. So obviously make sure you give them your passport and flight and hotel details.
If thats impossible then you could probably do it the next day, people turn up at check in and they can do it then for them, but its best to do it the 72 hours before if you can.
Or if your passport is valid from your wedding day, you could do it yourself in the morning.0 -
You can get your Esta as soon as you receive your passport in your married name. I'm assuming you'll be doing this earlier than the wedding day ! You can change the name on your passport up to 3 months before the wedding day, just do this, then apply for the Esta when your new passport comes.
