If you have your flight details and accommodation address, then just enter them on the ESTA0

Hey
We plan to visit the USA during Oct 2010 , and
Our ESTA's will expire Jan 4th 2011 .
Is there any rules on travel completed in 'X' of days before an ESTA expires etc ( similar how a passport requires 90 days after departing etc ) sorry if this sounds a dumb question
cheers

I don't believe that there are.
Nevertheless, I would just simply apply for a new one anyway before you travel (you can reapply anytime).
There is talk of a fee being imposed by the US Government soon (September?), so that action should avoid the fee for another couple of years.
You can see some further MSE advice here:

No - the expiry date of the ESTA is the last day you can ENTER the US. You can then stay up to 90 days, as long as your passport remains valid, or until it expires if earlier.0 -

What's this about?
The days of filling out a green I-94 piece of paper (commonly thought of as the Visa Waiver form) on a plane for entry into the US have ended. You now need to fill in an online request to enter the States, at least three days before travelling (although you'll usually get a decision in minutes, it can take up to three days), otherwise you'll be turned away at US immigration.
The form is called the Electronic System for Travel Authorisation form or ESTA for short.
What to do
The application form is available right now onIt's completely free, so beware of other sites implying there's a fee to pay.
Even if you're only considering going to the States at some point in the future, it's worth filling in the application before buying tickets...just on the off chance you're rejected and can't get your flight/hotel money back.
Plus the ESTA lasts two years (or until your passport expires), and only takes five mins, so after that you’re covered in case you forget, plus the three day rule could be a problem for emergency travel. When filling in the form you'll see a "flight details" section, but note this doesn't have an asterix, meaning you don't have to fill it in.
Once the ESTA is out of date you need to reapply.
Note from Martin: Outrageously if you don't have the web you can't get it.
Outrageously the only method for this new proceedure is online, so if you know someone without internet access, you may need to help them to register if they're making a trip to the US. It does seem bizarre that the US is effectively saying you need the internet to visit.
When we asked how people offline could register, the reply was, "Thank you for your question. For those who don’t have access to the Internet, it’s best to contact a friend, family member, colleague or travel agent who is online. Any of those folks are able to fill out the ESTA form on behalf of the traveller."
I would hate to think of, perhaps, an older non-web user, needing to fly to the US for a funeral. Sorry you're not on the internet...

Hopefully the Library can help you apply on the internet as it is free. Or the Airport.gl:T Engaged and planning to get married in 2012 :T0 -
I have an indefinite US visa from 1984 in an old passport. Is this still valid or would I still have to complete an ESTA form?0
-
The indefinite visas are no longer valid so you will have to apply for an ESTA.0
