  • Thanks Pennylane99, I now know we need our passports. I hate to start filling in forms and have to keep getting up to get something.
  • I'm planning to go to the US for the first time this Summer and to be perfectly honest I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm only 18 and the only other person going to be with me will be my boyfriend, also 18, an American Citizen, so none of this applies to him.

I've applied for the ESTA and been accepted, but my Aunt, who travels a lot, says that I still need a VISA as well as the ESTA. She's from Italy so I don't know if this only applies to her. Can anyone help?

Whether your a UK or Italy resident the process is the same. Fill out the ESTA form, get accepted and fill in the green visa waiver form on arrival. Full details can be found Here

I know an earlier post stated that the problem with extended validity passports had been resolved by the US authorities amending the computer programme.

But, has anyone on here recently had an automatic acceptance in these circumstances?

An example would be a ten year passport issued in Feb 2004 which expires Jun 2014.
  • Just found this link which may answer a few questions http://www.dhs.gov/xnews/releases/pr_1212501117599.shtm

Mine worked OK and it's an 'extended' date passport. Did it a couple of days ago.

  • I have been asked to fill out forms for a couple who travel to the US in March for a nine day holiday in Las Vegas. When I first looked at the website I thought I needed details such as Carrier, flight details, address in the US etc, [most of these details will not be available until the flight tickets arrive]. I was always told that when completeing the waiver previously on the plane all these details had to be filled in. Is it OK to complete the waiver without all these details, also do the US Authorities acknowledge the completed on-line waiver?

At the moment the carrier, flight details, address while in the US are not compulsory. It also doesnt ask for a date of travel. As long as you keep a note of the ESTA application numbers that you are issued with, you can go back in and amend those other details as and when you get them.

I applied this August the first day it became available, hit a snag straight away as my passport had been renewed with 4 months till expiry as allowed so was valid for over 10 years and their system was not programmed for this. Suspect it would affect quite a few others. I contacted the Dept of Homeland Security by email with very little hope of a result but was amazed to receive a reply 10 days later, thanking me for informing them of this fact and saying they had now amended the application program. RESULT!!!!!

Hi, mtp, I have just hit the same snag! So the web site has not been amended.

I hope I will be allowed to go to see my DS next month. Need a crossed fingers icon!
