A friend of mine moved over to the USA after marrying his partner, and he still had to have a VISA until he could be officially declared a US citizen. And it was the same for his partner coming over here when she was visiting.
Thanx for reply.0 -
OPPS! Just got Martins update on ESTA's and thought it seemed like a good time to get them done and out the way, I did mine first and was given an immediate clearance, so, I did my wifes for her only to get a reply that her passport details were already in use for another application!
When she came downstairs I asked her if she had applied already and she duly showed me the printed copy of her approval we did in August, alas she also produced my approval from August! So it seems I have two sets of approvals with differing approval numbers. Do you think I should tell someone or wait til I get to the US of A to be castrated.;)0 -

I think the title says it all.i think this system has been brought in so that people who will almost certainly get send back when they land in USA , don't get on the plane in the 1st place, thus saving immigration a lot of work ect.
this isn't a problem for people attempting to cross a land border as they just deny them entry if they cannot come in.0 -
We are travelling to the US on 2nd February. We applied for non-immigrant visas at the American Embassy in October 2006 as we wanted a certain amount of freedom on the number of times we could enter the US. The new visas are proudly sitting in our passports waiting for our trip (they are valid until October 2016). This is the first trip we have made with the new visas having always used the visa waiver programme. Do we still have to apply for an ESTA?
If you have 'proper' visas you don't need to apply via ESTA0 -
Did this chap become a US citizen or did he obtain a Green Card? These are two different things. A UK citizen with a Green Card is outside of the Visa Waiver Programme and is not required to complete the green immigration form, just the white customs declaration form.he6rt6gr6m wrote: »Yes. Does this just apply if you're flying into the US? I'm going to be visiting family who live on the right side of the border and then plan on driving from Canada down to Lake Placid NY. I'm ok (Canadian passport so different rules apply for me) but my UK hubby will supposedly need a visa.
Does it make any difference that he has an old style UK passport due to expire in a couple of years?
(by the way the website is working again.)
He won't need a visa.
He can apply via ESTA but may have to fill in the (visa waiver) form again at the border. He will have to pay $6. His passport will be no problem.
Edit - land arrivals don't need to do ESTA - just fill in the form at the border0 -
I've got nothing to hide but my fingerprints are my own until I do something wrong. Just seems a step too far for me. Photo ok, retina also ok but prints? No thank you. Once given they can't be taken back quote]
You are reacting over-emotionally, to the historical connection of fingerprints with crime. There's no logical reason why they should have ONLY criminal associations. It's been like that, yes, but it doesn't have to be.0 -
I'm actually a US citizen, but with UK residence and have been living in the UK for 7 years. I'm visiting the US in March. Just wondering if any one knows if this new form will affect me in any way. I guess I don't need to fill it out, being a US citizen, but would I need to do something extra to get back into the UK? I might have to take this one up with immigration, but if anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
As far as you personally are concerned, nothing at all has changed.0
