Just a quick mention about Credit Applications, as you know when you apply for credit most places ask for your Gross annual income, and they don’t check your payslips either, but don’t be tempted to stick a couple of grand a year extra on your gross pay because they compare your applications with the HUNTER Database, if their a serious discrepancies they will knock you back and record it on their system for future application attempts.

Surely if you have allready stated on previous applications your income, wont it flag up that your income from previous apps is different from this higher figure etc etc!!!!

    Hi Clio,

You are right in that they will keep an eye on what you put as Salary, and I suspect if it jumped from £20k one year to £120k the next year, then alarm bells may ring and they would probably ask for evidence of the higher salary.

However, salaries will fluctuate all the time with people getting promoted, changing jobs, changing hours, doing overtime. Then there are people like EmptyCouch with bonuses which vary, and myself being self employed whose income will never be exactly the same from one year to another.

I think they will just look for some consistency, and provided there is nothing that stands out all should be ok.

As I said, I've never had to prove my income to a Credit Card company, and if I did all I could do is send them copies of previous years accounts to justify what I am likely to earn in the current year.

I'm not advocating lying, but I would put down the highest salary that I know I could justify should they decide to question me about it.

Cheers, thats kinda what I thought. As mentioned in an earlier post, salary and income should perhaps be defined. I could earn a salary of X but have additional income that would like to be counted as well, for instance if I'm letting a property or something or run a website etc.

I'm not trying to pull a fast one, just don't want to get caught out on a technicality!;)
