Firstly it WILL go into reduced functionality and secondly it WON'T sort itself out.

Switch to Ubuntu (the new beta 8.04 is excellent) - its better anyway.

The thing is, its a completely unnecessary measure by MS, it does NOT stop mass piracy. But pestering the end user is the best idea they could come up with...

If the activation isn't working it might also be worth checking you haven't blocked it via a firewall on your PC or router.

ok so my DS's mate was wrong and you guy's were right...I have had to ring them in the end...the balloon kept coming up and no it wouldn't do it on line...so I rang the automated service and did it that way...just thought I would ask you guy's if it was worth holding on until it did it like my DS's mate is supposed to have done...but guess he was telling porky's...thank's for all your info and help though...Ice:D

I have another Q for you all...
in control panel
under turn windows features on or off
I have noticed that the "windows process activation service " was turned off would this have effected the activation and is that why it wouldn't activate thanks in advance...:D
