Step 1: Snap out of that mood

Step 2: Follow SIMPLE instructions and ring Microsoft on the FREE number

Step 3: Find out who to blame before blaming them, like Conor said

it's mine I bought it fair and square

Actually... Not true.. You bought the license but microsoft still owns the OS. You only "License" it from them to use not own. The OS remains the property of Microsoft at all times. That is why you now have to prove that your "License" is only being used on the one PC permitted and therefore have to phone them..

Microsoft pretty much covered thier Ar$$e$ with thier EULA this time.

Apple trump that, they put in theirs for Safari for Windows that it can't be used on anything other than a Mac!!! And in at least the iTunes one they cover themselves as far as not being allowed to use the software in the development or use of nuclear and biological weapons etc.

You have to ring MS, plain and simple - there is no other way around it. Chances are it was a "pre-activated" version that was installed originally which is why you're now getting the message. Just phone the 0800 number it tells you to and go through the routine - it's very easy.

what you on about...I built my own pc and bought the OS system from ebuyer with the parts...it's was not "pre-installed" as you say...

You do realise you don't have to activate Vista for like, over a year? You can extend the 30 Day limit about 12 times or so (only the Vista Home edition cannnot be extended).

And no, its not a hack and it does not break the EULA for Vista. It was built in by MS Developers so that companies would have time to activate copies install via an image. I use it because I often rebuild my Vista install (I only use it for gaming, everything else I do in Ubuntu) and can't be bothered with another game of 20 questions... I get pretty irritated when they ask "Why have you had to reactivate so many times?" I have to supress the urge to tell them "What the **** has it got to do with you?"

Don't bother with it, extend the activation deadline. I don't see why they have had to bring out such an annoying measure (as if Vista isn't irritating enough) - its not like its impossible to break the copy protection... it just annoys the average user! WPA does not prevent mass piracy.

Actually everyone should read this article - another good reason why buying a Vista PC off ebay (and the likes) is big risk, 8-12months down the line, you could be faced with having to fork out for a legitimate copy of Vista.

Happens quite often with me (for XP) with the various hardware upgrades and repairs. Trust me you'll save yourself a lot of hassle and time simply phoning MS (which I've done plenty of times) and entering the activation code they give you. Rather than trying to look for a workaround that'll either not work or violate the license in some way. It will only cost you time (maybe what ten minutes), how much time have you spent on this thread debating it? :)

If MS refuse to activate for some bizarre reason because they insist the key is being used by someone else then it's really down to ebuyer to supply you with a replacement.

I don't use Vista myself but I agree completely that it shouldn't happen with a brand new install and unused serial. Could be a glitch with the activation servers or something, especially under high demand. I guess you can give a while and keep trying internet activation in the meantime.
