  • Am I right in thinking that Staywell are NOT the only company selling a microchip catflap?

On Ebay there's other companies selling them and by the photo's they appear to have different packaging. On both Staywell and the other companies they both have Petporte stamped on the catflap though.

Is it just one product being sold in different packaging?
  • Can anybody tell me how long the electric cable is that comes with the catflap? I`ve just looked on Amazon and noticed that a lot of ppl who bought it also bought an extension. Thanks

Avoid -microchipcatflaps.co.uk like the plague - it's a scam - , the company's Facebook site has a number of other poeple in the same boat as myself - facebook.com/microchipcatflaps - I have spoken to Nottingham Trading Standards (Ref YH4817432) who are investigating the problem - they advised me to pursue a claim though my bank as it seems like a fraudulent transaction
  • I agree, I got my petporte flap from this website a few years ago....this chap
James Winsoar is simply a distributor for Petsafe who took over Petporte and manufacture the smartflaps. Mine took about 3 months to arrive and I was continually fobbed off with nonsense about distributor delays.

Only when I threatened investigation from my credit card provider did the flap arrive...

It might be worth you contacting Petsafe and making them aware what a bad
reputation he's giving their products as his website does imply he's the source distributor for the Smartflap. They are extremely helpful as a company and may not be aware of the problem......

Hi all, just a quick question :)

As of next week lovely dear kitty will have her own garden again. Just want to ask what you think of this:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/SureFlap-Ltd-Microchip-Flap-White/dp/B003EGIM3O/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

as it seems to have good reviews etc

    OR

    http://www.pet-supermarket.co.uk/products-Pet-Porte-Door-Mount-Smart-Flap-Microchip-Cat-Flap_NB0024.htm

There is to be a newer version of this, but it's not so popular (glitches?)

Is the Sure Flap micro chip flap diff to the Pet Porte / the Stay Well / Pet Smart / and the Petmate? I'm v confused. I see them on diff sites with diff packaing and slightly diff names. I'm proper confused!

Thanks in advance of any advice

It's my understanding that only the sureflap and the petporte are flaps that read microchips. The others are either manual so that any and all cats can use it or they need a collar to activate it.

I can recommend the petporte as we currently have the newest version (previously had the original one, when that conked out customer services replaced it FOC with the newest one) Bought ours from here with no problems at all http://www.petplanet.co.uk/category.asp?dept_id=933&gclid=COjsxaCaw68CFYsntAodSw07YQ

I think the only possible downside to the PP versus the sureflap is that the PP needs to be near a power supply as it's mains with a battery backup whereas the sureflap runs on 4 AA's. Not a problem for us as the backdoor has a nearby power point.
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:
  • Thanks Shelly you've simplified things for me! I don't have a plug near the door so perhaps will get the extension with the PP.

    thanks again

Staywell bought the Pet Porte company recently. I've had a Pet Porte for 2 years and it's brill. Mains powered with battery backup. There is also Sureflap which is battery only, but it's definitely a different product.

    Hope this helps. :)

  • I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have any idea where I can get one of the original petporte cat flap replacement doors from? I've had a pet porte microchip cat flap since 2007 and have woken up this morning to find the door on my back step in 2 pieces. These doors were square shaped and so the new style replacement doors will not fit. Would be a shame to have to pull the whole cat flap out and buy a new one (although it looks like from reading this thread that the new pet porte cat flaps by Staywell might fit the same sized hole). Any help would be appreciated!

Have you tried contacting the Pet Porte people? They may have some old stock.

Or how about superglue? Though you need to be aware that some work better with plastics than others. And some superglues, such as Loctite 406, are specially formulated for plastics. You might get some useful info at your local model shop.

Hope this helps if you can't get another door.
