The 2-pin plug is not standard hence it must be an import. I would be surprised if the spec changed between countries - check www.petporte.com to see how yours compares.

Do you have a link to the eBay ad? (or an auction number)

  • Thanks for your quick reply.

Looking at the advert it seems that James (inventor I think) has an ebay account and what we have received is the Pet Porte old version. There is no mention in the advert about the plug. As the Petporte site mentions that the original flap has been discontinued then maybe this is his way of getting rid of old stock.

Either way I wanted the smartflap as it had the battery back up. So it looks like were going to have to send what we have back. Although, we dont have many power cuts either- Humph this decision is to hard! It took us 2 weeks to decide to get the pet porte only to buy the wrong one!!!
  • Apart from the battery issue, as MrsE said above, I've also read that the old ones are draftier as there is a slight gap between the flap and the surround.
How much did you pay for the one you've got? Was it a real bargain or just a bit cheaper?
If you complain about the plug then you might find he offers you some cash back rather than have the hassle of having it sent back...

If by James you mean the chap behind the microchipcatflaps site, he is not the inventor - indeed he has absolutely nothing to do with the Pet Porte company at all.

There are other benefits with the new Pet Porte, including the fact that the cutout dimensions match those of many other brands hence it is a bit more transferrable between houses, existing holes, etc. There will undoubtedly have been improvements made over the old version as a result of the product development and opportunity for a design refresh.

    Helloo,

So we've invested in a Pet Porte- Yippee! or so I thought.
Hubby bought it from Ebay (trying to save money) and it has arrived today with a 2 pin plug and apparently its not got Battery Backup! Is this the old model? And what's with the 2 pin plug is that standard?
I was expecting a 3 pin UK plug with Battery Back Up!

I need to ascertain if I should be shouting at the Ebay seller??

Is the plastic panel square (old type) half round (new type)?

Yes should have a UK plug.

I don't think James is the inventor, but rather a distributor.

Thats what they sent me at first, a European plug.
  • Thanks for all your replies.
We have asked for the item to be returned but James is saying that its not allowed, although the ebay advert states returns are accepted!
I feel an arguement coming on.

    Thanks again x

Can you not either tell him you want a UK plug for it or return it to exchange for the Smartflap & pay the difference.

I don't think he has to allow the upgrade, but it would be good CS, but he has to send you a UK power plug, it needs to be fit for purpose.

Keep persisting. You have rights under the Distance Selling Regulations and can return the goods for any reason within a reasonable period. James has been known to try and restrict buyer's statutory rights in the past so just keep at him.

  • Buying it on ebay I would think gives more rights than buying it through his website. Well, not more rights, but easier ways to deal with the problems. Did you pay by paypal? If so there should be no problems getting the new plug at least, as it is not as described I would say you would get a refund from paypal pretty easily if you went down that route, so James should pull his finger out and sort it himself without forcing you to go down that route.

As for upgrading the flap that is a bit trickier but if the ad said returns accepted then he should accept them!

Note that the distance selling regs DON'T apply if it was an auction format ebay listing. However if it was a buy it now listing, they DO apply (usually) and you can at the very least send it back for a refund within 7 days of delivery. However you might not get your P&P back.

Beyond 7 days the "not as described" issue would come into play, I would think.

You might get better help on the Ebay board of this forum if you do continue to have problems returning it.
