Have you tried googling what head-lice look like so you can say whether it's them or not. Certainly I've never heard of it before, they go sort of 'dormant' when wet, which is why you get them out by wetting hair and using conditioner and nit comb. Very few nit combs get the eggs which is why you have to repeat the conditioner process a few days later after they've hatched till they've all gone.
  • that poor child, i think that you should have a quiet word with her parent, just mention that your daughter has come home from school with some nits and ask her if she has checked her daughters head recently.
Dont be embarrassed it can and does happen to anyone regardless of social standing. as you may or may not know we have a shop and 2 children and as a precaution i check all of our heads on a regular basis and yes weve been caught....
I also ask all of the staff to ckeck their heads and families heads at the same time otherwise it is a pointless exercise
Its not how far you fall but how high you bounce back that matters

I'm fairly certain it's head lice Spendless. The ones I've found on the pillow etc were still and not jumping about like fleas would. In fact I thought they were dead until I looked closer and saw them moving slowly. They also looked like pics I've seen.

I just thought it was a bit strange how they were everywhere.

The poor girl must be riddled with them and that can't have happened in a few day's. I think trader girls advice sounds good would you be able to mention that they are going round school and she best check her girls hair.

Could you have a quiet word with the teacher of your daughter's friend. She could then send a letter to the parents of your daughter's friend (and other parents)saying a number of pupils have been found to have lice in their hair and would they check their childrens hair,to prevent an epidemic of head lice in the school. They should also have instructions sent on how to get rid of them. Also have you tried those battery combs, they are very effective in zapping them.

One school I worked in, children were sent home if they had headlice. I would tell school too. Poor wee thing. She must be riddled with them.

Sometimes i feel like im peeing in the wind with my son. He is 6 and he would come home from school and every couple of nights id check his hair. For about 2 months i found nits, treated them, checked his hair was clear and then a day or two later he would have them again.

In the end i shaved his head. I know Nits are not dirty and there is no shame in having them but clearly some parents dont share the same concern and just let their kids harvest nits.

It has been 2 years now on and off that my 2 have had them, I have spent hundreds of pounds on treating them (as per directions), however they always come back. Just a few days ago I discovered them on my littlest again, so that will be more money on "nit stuff"
    Loving the dtd thread. x

Oh you've just reminded me of my school days.I sat next to a girl who had headlice by the bucketful. You would see them fall onto the desk and she did'nt seem to even scratch.
My daughter is a nursery teacher and she has caught headlice so often from the children that she keeps a nit comb in the shower permanently as she runs it through her hair everynight. She says that this is the only way she can ensure she does'nt end up getting infested as they are just so common nowadays.I would'nt mind but she never caught them once as a child.I'm scratching now just thinking about it.
