Tried to phone daughter's friend's Dad but they must have been out all day and the longer it is before I get him, the more worried I get about saying anything.

I have no experience of lice, but would just remind you to be careful how you put it.......if the girl is crawling with them, then it's probably fair to say that so is the Dad, and all the rest of the family, and the home.........etc

I have never forgotten the holiday we had ( in a caravan) where I asked my son (age 3) why he was scratching his head (he's now 24!). We all spent several hours being combed and having nit stuff appled and the only effective measure that ever worked consistently was conditioner and and a nit comb.

I had hair down to my waist, bites on my back/neck and couldn't understand why I itched!!

My DD (twin of brother above) had nits recently and swears she caught them sitting next to someone on the bus!!!!!!!

My sdd arrived this evening covered in spots her mum say chiken pox for the 3rd time (is that possible?) and her head is covered in nits. It has been since she started school in september all i get told is it comes with her going to school. Its amazing as when she stays with us for a week they go away !! But my main problem at the moment is that over the last 6 weeks we've been told that sdd has excema on the base of her neck so we've been given cream for it. This excema means that my sdd is shaking with pain if you so much as lift a single hair on her head. Her scalp is COVERED in nits and scabs and i just don't know what to do.
I'm going to take her to boots tomorrow to see what the pharmasist thinks and see if they have any advice. I was thinking of taking her to the doctor on monday but i'm not sure as sdd said she had been yesterday.
I also have long hair, get married in 2 weeks and have a hair trail a week tomorrow so that should be interesting. I have a 18 month dd who is sure to get them although she's never had them before even though she's been at nursery for 6 months.
I'm so annoyed to see my sdd like this as she is always in pain. We contacted social services in january and they say everything is fine. I thought the school might have done something but it looks like they haven't.
Any advice on what i can do for my sdd? really really really bad nits and really really bad scabs and open wounds on her scalp.
    please help

Oh dear charlie, tbh I'd be reluctant to start with nit comb and conditioner if she has sores and be more tempted to see what pharmacist says. When you say they go when you have her you mean you use a treatment on her?

aliasojo- you mentioned not scratching, apparantly not everyone does. It was news to me, but something my sis got told when she was buying a treatment for neice's hair.

I didn't want to read and run, but not sure really what to suggest. You could maybe phone NHS Direct for advice although they take ages to call back sometimes. Alternatively, how is she with water on her scalp? Others have said water makes them dormant and sort of fall off, so you could maybe pop her in the bath for a bit and see if you can get rid of some gently. I guess the nits are not helping your sdd's excema at all, poor little love.

usually we use full marks on the first night and then conditioner and comb on the next nights and i do it every night she is with us. I usually spend around 2/3 hours combing her hair every night.
I've put her to bed without doing anything tonight as i'm so worried about hurting her. I can't even comb/brush her hair at the moment it hurts that much. You lift her hair up and every strand has nits on it, from half way down the strand to the root. There are lots of eggs on it too.
It sounds really bad but i kinda want to quarintine her away from me and dd. I will take her to the pharmasist tomorrow and see what they say. My poor baby though

I found Hedrin is the only thing that works on my kids.... you use it on yourself just in case and it works within 8 hours.

I've also heard kids with sensitive scalps - it can be because they need more omega vitamins...

the omega 3 thing wouldn't surprise me my sdd has a diet of nuggets and chips, chocolate and crisps. She doesn't eat anything any more unless it's crap.

I would take her to the doctor if its really bad and get the word from him on what needs to be done with the open wounds and lice etc. I also had my daughters hair cut short (not to short) to make it easier to manage as she has masses of thick hair . I had sons head shaved a couple of years ago at the start of school hols as he came home last week of school with them. Very extreme and I felt cruel but its at least an instant cure for the problem. I couldnt have done that to DD though so it was perserverance for a very long time.

would love to cut sdd's hair but her mother would go loopy at us. The mother decided she wanted my sdd's fringe grown out so she now has curtains which she can't see through. But we were told we were NOT allowed to cut it as mother wanted it long!
I would see the doctor but our surgery is closed until monday and i just wanted to get some advice asap, plus the extra days might mean that it starts to clear up (I'm praying)
