Most of the parents who refuse to do anything about their kids nit infestations are probably in denial as their little "precious" couldn't possibly have nits, that's what poor people get init?Winnings

Can I just say apparently hair straighteners are great for 'preventing' nit infestations. Just straighten your children's hair every so often and no more problem ( I suspect they sizzle!) Kittie I am from Liverpool originally wherabouts did you grow up?0

My DD get letters sent home regular about nits, shes 4, i comb her hair every night, and before school spray her hair with tea tree spray, or detangling spray from avon, then tie up in a pony tail. (I'm obsessed with getting the blighters out  )
She still gets them occasionally, but not too bad.0 -
My sons nursery seem to tell parents that kids have lice if they so much as stratch. My son tends to stratch due to a dry scalp- his keyworker would swear blind to me that he was infested- Id take him home and go through with the nit come and he would be totally clear- yet the next day she would tell his Dad he was infested and I hadnt checked. Even got to the stage where she was threating to contact social services over it
In the end I took him in 5 mins early- got the keyworker and nursery manager to come in staff room and combed through his hair with the nit comb- and let them examine his (CLEAR) head. They both agreed there were no lice or eggs - yet that evry afternoon the keyworker then told OH that he had lice.
Now if she tell me this I ask her to show me these lice in his head- we looked through together after bursery once and there were none- Ive not had hee mention it again
And I do check his head on a daily basis anyway0 -
manuka oil is a little stronger than tea tree and a few drops in water sprayed over the hair as a detangler/before combing would keep out the plague. It does whiff a little though but is completely natural so no worry about what chemicals you're using and it actually helps with eczema.

Apparently you are only supposed to use a lotion once - as the nits become "immune" to the lotion. If you do another one - use a different one a week later. Begins to cost a fortune at around £10 a bottle each time. I gave up on the lotion and just comb and "pick" out like a monkey!!
If you feel brave enough, I would politely mention nits to the girl's parents. I am convinced some parents know their children have them, but become mortified if someone else realises it too!!
I do only use the lotion once a week, but I also have a limited choice ( of 1) to use as my son is asthma.
It can be very frustrating. I tend to lotion on the site of nits and then comb as regular as possible. I'm doing it every other day at the moment, cos his head it sore from the eczema.
I would try and politely mention the "problem" but she's from a rough part of the palce where I live built like a well you know what, and often comes to school reeking of booze ( neddless to say this is perhaps why her child has nits all the time!)
So I'm afraid to broach the subject;)

My Daughter would come home with live nits almost daily, we comb through with a "zapper" comb every day to get the live ones out and I have a great chemical free way (cover the hair with olive oil mixed with a few drops of tea tree oil and leave overnight) of treating which finger crossed since we used it a few months ago she has been nit free!!! I also spray all of the childrens hair with an essential oil mix i have made.Don't get strung out by the way I look,
Don't judge a book by it's cover0 -
