  • I to think its a miracle worker! I bought mine on ebay. Nitty gritty themselves sell them on ebay cheaper than elsewhere. £7.45. The quality and effectiveness it the best ever. My little sister had nits non stop for years - eventually when they stopped being such a big problem her hair was covered with the shells and she wouldnt tie her hair up or go to hairdressers - they were so obvious. 15mins with this comb and the shells which have been stuck on for years have gone and at 14 this is a big deal! I saw her with her hair up for the 1st time in years!

I can't seem to copy and paste the form to post it here, maybe like Rachel021967 said, give them a ring. Or download 'Adobe Reader' which is what you need to view the document. http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readermain.html

Thanks, i never thought of sending them an email or phoning them. It must be all my pregnancy hormones. I have adobe and it works fine when i download other things, its just that document. Never mind will get in touch with them

  • Anyone else whose primary school has the policy of sending a child home from school if they are found to have headlice to get them "treated" half way through the day. I know there have been various links about this but would like to discuss other problems before I challenge local policy.

In fact I can't quite believe it!!!! still recovering from it...not only the nits...horrible little things but also the schools approach.

When my kids were at school they would have been sent home if the parent was in. I guess its how it is done that counts, as long as it was discreetly. I have no problem with that.

Its a problem that is in most if not all primary schools, and I was glad when they left and went to senior schools.

I remember nitty nora nurse in my school and lining up to have our hair inspected. Is she still alive??? :D

I used conditioner and comb on my kids and as long as I did it most nights,we kept on top of them. I actually enjoyed the time with them, they sat in bath and would tell me about their day, and I took satisfaction in rinsing lice down sink.
  • It seems to be rife at the moment.

We have been recommended to use HEADRIM (apologies for incorrect spelling). Tescos did have a buy one get one free offer on.

We have used a lot of others. This is a gel type applicant which you leave on for twelve hours and wash off. You then repeat the process seven days later.

What does amaze me that some parents send in their children fully knowing they have head lice and do nothing about it. We do occasionally receive memos from the school and I did complain at them as its all well and good telling everyone by note, actual one to one per parent would be much better.
  • well I'm glad my daughters' school doesn't send them home if they have nits....

we don't use the chemical treatments as a) I'm a breastfeeding Mum so can't use them and b) they dont' work anyway!

if we have nits (and I do check regularly) we use the wet combing with conditioner method. With the best will in the World, that takes several days to work as you need to wait for the eggs to hatch and really tiny nits are difficult to remove. As long as you re-comb every other day you get them all in the end, but it might take 3-4 goes.

If they sent my two girls home every time they got nits they would miss a lot of school :o

Sounds like I should be having a word with the head about their antiquated policy then doesn't it. I wonder how many other schools have this policy.?
  • Not my daughters (in Somerset) If a child has headlice a Nit note is sent to All the children in the class reminding parents that all members of the family need to be treated ASAP. And wet combing with a nit comb is the only way to get rid of them.
I dont know if your child has log hair but i find that if I wet comb hair using tea tree conditioner then put it into the tightest plaits without rinsing the conditioner off it seems to deter 'visitors'
  • hello, hope someone can help!
i recently spent a day at a school, to see how i feel about going into teaching...
i can't be sure, but i think i may have picked up headlice
my head has been rather itchy...is this a definite sign?
should i do a treatment anyway, and does anyone know the best way to tackle the problem/link to another thread?
    many thanks
