My 14 yr old DS has got nits today for the first time ever! He was mortified. I have treated him and his little brother and once my step kids come over I will check them too.
However, after I washed the stuff out I took the towels and boil washed them. I have just though should I strip their beds too?
Or am I being OTT?You can stand there and agonize........

Yes I would wash the bedding too ,at least the pillow cases. I think a hotwash is OK rather than a boil wash.0

Im not sure if this has already been suggested as I havent read the whole thread.
When I was younger my Mum used to put Avon Leave in conditioner on our hair after washing it. It stops the nits laying eggs on the hair. It worked great for us and I know Avon still sell it now. Its good obviously for when you have got rid of them already.
Also I read some people calling the children names, please remember it is not a childs fault they have headlice, its the parents from not getting rid of them.I have a family member who's children had nits continuously for 2 years as the mother was too lazy to get rid and the oldest got picked on so bad at school but shes only 6 so cant do anything herself!

Nits arghhh!!
Sorry, haven't read the whole thread but I have to comb DD1 EVERY night (supposedly her class is the worst in the school), am also putting lavender oil in the conditioner, supposed to help...though in my experience the strong chemicals are the only sure way to get rid.
Can I start a petition for a national nit day? If everyone blasts them on the same day we could get rid of them for ever......0 -

Just got two huge bottles of tea tree conditioner from Wilkinsons for 90p each. Thought this might be ideal for the combing method. You can stand there and agonize........

My DS (aged 10) hates having his hair touched, each time he goes to the barbers he freaks out a bit and makes his neck disappear into his shoulders IYKWIM.
I sat him down and nit combed his hair on Saturday and he was fine, he squirmed a bit but I told him if i didnt get them out when they hatched they might fall off his head into his dinner! He sat good as gold until I had finished.

try threatening her with having her hair cut really short so that combing it doesn't take so long...Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I would like to recommend Vosene shampoo for kids, 3 in 1, with conditioner and head lice repellent. Also they do a leave in spray which I am going to try when I can get hold of some. The shampoo is quite expensive but seems to do the trick.0
