Trouble is Millie, that if you don't do it every day, it's going to be your child that the parents and kids are talking about as being the one who is passing nits around the class.
As you know, children don't particularly like being combed for nits, and will often be quite scathing if they identify someone in their class as being likely to be 'responsible' for their evenings being spent over the bath rather than in front of CBBC.
And if you are leaving it for 5 days, she is going to be alive with them. You are going to have to do it every day for at least 14 days, just to get today's ones out of her hair.
Once they are completely gone, it's an every other day job, anyway.
I know it's horrible, but you just have to get on with it.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

My dd has very thick ultra curly hair so it is an absolute nightmare. But I have no alternative but to comb through her hair every 3-5 days (it takes me an hour) and I always get either live lice or eggs out of her hair. I am at my wits end also.
She hasn't had her hair cut since March as the hairdresser won't cut her hair while she has them and she hasn't been free of them since then so her hair is now long, straggly and getting ruined and I don't know what else to do.
I have tried everything, oil, tea tree, other conditioners etc and nothing works. She has her hair tied back every day but becuase it is so curly, its very bushy and there are always fluffy bits of hair exposed. I really feel for her because her head is sore with the constant combing. Short of shaving her head I'm not sure what else I can do
I would try to find a different hairdresser, my dd gets headlice every 3 or 4 months, she has a neat bob, so its not too difficult for me to get rid of them.
I know my hairdresser would still cut her hair for me though...0 -

You could trim her hair yourself while the hairdresser won't do it.
I'd leave some sort of conditioner on her hair while it is tied back for school.
Might be worth trying the overnight olive oil treatment to give yourself a bit of a head start and to make sure you kill everything even if you don't manage to comb every last corpse out. You could do that every night and shampoo her hair the next morning. The olive oil would be a great conditioner and wouldhelp you comb through it.0 -
I agree you need to do it daily, at least initially.
And for normal checking, once a week is not enough.
I've always sat mine in front ot the TV, or a DVD.
I wash the hair, stick in loads of conditioner, put a towel over their shoulders and sit them in front of me.
You need kitchen roll, or a bowl of water to get the lice/nits off the comb, but my children sit still for quite a long time this way.
Afterwards, I either get them to hang their head over the sink and rinse it out, or out them in the bath shower and wash/rinse that way.
It works best with cheap conditioner as it is more liquidy (is that a word?) but you can just sponge a bit of extra water on if it starts to get difficult to comb through.
It's easier if you can get some butterfly clips too and separate the hair into sections.
Don't bother with lotions as they are a waste of time, plus you'd be amazed how many children spot the lingering smell!
None of them question how they know what the smell is of course....0 -

Is it just me, or does anyone else love cracking eggs with their nails?
I used to love the sensation of finding one and thinking "gotcha you little shoite" while blitzing it.
I know I'm mad....and sad lol:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0 -

Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0
