I think what you are doing for him is lovely, I'm sure he's not taking you for a ride, but probably is enjoying feeling like part of your family & like there is someone who cares about him.
I lived in a bedsit ( my parents emigrated, I didn't want to go ) I was YTS, didn't have a clue about cooking, budgetting anything, I used to go & see my Nan & Grandad, not just to visit, but knowing they'd send me around the chip shop, later they started giving me tins of beans & sausgaes, tinned spagetti jaffa cakes etc, all of which I grew to hate I ate them so much, but I would never have said to them, i don't like those as they may not have given me anything & I would have starved.
I had a friend, who had everything, I was never jealous of her & her family were lovely to me including me on many occasions, even introducing me as thier "other" daughter, I wonder if he feels a bit like I did at the time, so good to be part of a family.
He's obviously had a tough time for a while, but for me it was a complete shock to end up like this as I was a spoilt brat!
I think you should also be very proud of your son, who sounds like a very good friend to him.

I think considering your own financial situation you are being more than generous. If he dosen;t like whats on offer thats HIS loss.

Yes but tonight we're having chicken cooked in the oven in garlic & olive oil, green salad with homemade French dressing, coleslaw and jacket potatoes. This will be followed by Butterscotch icecream and McVities ginger cake. Hope thats to your liking.

i grew up in care and relied on friends to subsidise me with food. I've lost touch with them now due to it being a long time ago and having moved town. I get very emotional thinking about the situation i was in and how kind they were. I moved to a salvation army home when i was 13 and it was a new town and hence a new school - i started in year 10. Fortunately, as a child i always managed to find good friends who i was always open with about my home circumstances.

Anyway, i don't know why but kids in the home never used to get free dinners but we used to take packed lunch made up of left over bread donated by M&S and it was always with cheese spread, peanut butter or fish paste - there was also crisps fromM&S but alwasy barbecue flavoured and near the sellby date.

I'd been at school a while and two of my good friends used to take it in turn to bring extra in so i'd have a decent dinner and i usually went to theirs for tea about once a week.

I just feel so humble that they were so kind - now i'm 40 and at the end of the day it was a stoopid sandwich but it meant the world to me and now i've kids of my own i've instilled in them the importance of being extra kind to those at school who aren't so lucky as they are.

from a previous kid in care to all of you who do an act of kindness to others a very big thank you - it was only a sandwich but it meant the world to me.

back to the question in hand, i wonder if the boy is claiming all he's entitled to? If he doesn't like what's provided then that's his choice if he's really hungry he'd eat it. Can't believe he's turning a ready made meal down:eek:
