  • Hi

I was wondering if any one can recommend any good moisturiser for sensitive and dry skin. I am really desperate as most stuff has my skin stinging after I put it on. I would like to use it as a daily moisturiser and sometimes as base for make up although don't tend to wear foundation daily. Please help

I find EVERYTHING (well nearly everything) stings my skin other then Liz Earle and now Avon botanical range. Avon is very cheap but tbh my skin isnt terribly dry. For very dry skin Id stick with liz earle

i have just tried prestige from boots, their "let loose" eye shadow is fab, approx £4 ish. Also instead of buying a toner, i ask my local chemist to make me up 500ml of rosewater, which costs around £3.

where is the best best to buy liz earle? I am so frustrated by my skin I am in my early 20s and skin has become overly senstive to everything, after the stinging I usually end up with a red/pink blotches in the areas where it is stinging. Might try the avon botanics too as my skin is quite dry particularly at the moment with the colder weather. thanks for the advice suki1964

The only places you can buy liz Earle is on her website, some John Lewis (a limited range) and QVC. If you buy from QVC or her website you can return them for a full refund if you dont get on with them. Actually I think she does now have her own shop in London.

I think if your skin has become sensitive then you cant go far wrong with Liz Earle. Hopefully if the range doesnt irritate then your skin shoul calm down and become less sensitive. I dunno but it feels to me that her range balances your skin out. The cleanse and polish is fantastic as a cleanser and I find the light moisturiser is enough for me. I know she does mixed packs with the moisturiser - a light for day and a normal for night if thats whats needed
  • I have used the Aldi concealer pen its fantastic! It is by far the best on the market, i have tried all the designer versions and they dont come close!
Only one problem at the moment though, i have purchesed a few more lately and they seem so be having a problem with faulty clickers. These are at the end of the pen which you click, this pushes up the concealer fluid to the tip of the pen. I am again taking one back to store today due to this problem. Has anyone else had this problem?

I've used La Roche Posay's Toleraine range and it's great for sensitive skin - really calms my skin down and reduces redness. Also does well on my dry skin. Garden Pharmacy sell this brand.

  • I got the botanicals one from avon and so far not had any reaction to it. Thanks for recommending it even got it at half price from the avon website. :j was going to go for the liz earle one but thought would try the cheaper one first.

thnaks to the other poster for the other recommendation, I will look it into it.

So glad Avon is working for you. TBH I love it, so does hubby.Sinks in so fast the smallest amount leave my face soft all day.

Just tried the serum as well as it was on special - not impressed enough to use it often enough to see any results. Find it feels pretty tacky although looks like they have just repackaged it so perhaps they have also changed the formula
  • As a trained beauty therapist I know that a lot of the cheaper cosmetics contain more mineral oils. Mineral oils have a lot of names such as liquid paraffin, petrolatum, baby oil, Vaseline. Mineral oils are obtained from the waste products of oil production and don't sink into the skin to nourish it. Only natural oils sink into the skin. Mineral oils have some good qualities as it puts a plastic layer on the skin to stop moisture loss in harsh weather conditions or good for babies bottoms to protect against nappy rash. Baby oil is virtually pure mineral oil and it's why it's used for massage, as it doesn't sink in so keeps the hands gliding. Only natural oils should be used in aromatherapy massage, as the oils are needed to sink in.
Another good point about mineral oil is that hardly anybody is allergic to it and it's cheap. A lot of people reading magazine articles telling them to put cheap things on their skin, aren't told about the ingredients in the products. Even some of the more expensive brands use cheap ingredients to bulk out their products though.

A bottle of virgin olive oil for 3 pounds is probably better for your skin than a cheap product that contains mostly mineral oils.
