Just started to get rid of some of my phones - sent two off with no value to be recycled and another which I should get back £11.70 from. Now I know why I've been putting it off for so long - never again- as I've had to sit and charge phones up to see if there is any old info on them, if they work etc and it's been a long job! I've still got 5 more to go.

So far Mopay has been the best bet when researching all 8 phones and they seem to have very positive press so I'm sending the above 3 as a test if you like.

I've also got 10 million charges (slight exaggeration but that's what it feels like when I look at them all!). Had a bit of a to do with the chargers as I didn't want to throw them away as it doesn't feel right and the mobile phones for cash companies aren't interested in them and ebay is awash with people selling them for pennies but I finally stumbled on the fact that Sainsbury's recyces them if you ask for the proper little bag thing - so I've picked a few bags up and got 2 bagged up (8,999,998 to go;) ) the only problem is that the envelopes are now too 'fat' to go in a normal letterbox so I'll now have to make a trip to the Post Office - I have asked myself whether the bin would have been easier but as I say, it doesn't feel right to just throw things away.

ATT, I hope you do get everything right - did the monies all go against certain equities, or funds and are you pound averaging for a while?

Hi Stuart, thanks, I hope I get everything right too :o The shares (5kworth ) I bought have gone down a wee bit but I'm not concerned yet as i'm looking at a 6-8 month time frame for the return.

Got the stozzing money in a savings account which is not quite at the best interest rate around - I'm going to do some more research this weekend and get that sorted. I'm also thinking about stoozing a further £10k

6-8months may be a little tight at the moment, do watch the markets carefully and have a stop-loss position where you can sell out and use other monies to make up the shortfall to £5k if the markets continue to fall. I assume you will be actively watching and trading day-by-day?

We're staying in the funds under our ISAs, and will buy in more units now until at least end of December looking for growth over the next 10yrs.

    Best wishes

I'v been away all week and not had a chance to have a look at this site so I bet there is lots to catch up on. Just a quick update for the mo

Came home to two nice letters from Mopay; one acknowledging the phones with no value that I'd sent for re-cylcing and another with a cheque for £5.20 in for the other phone, I was expecting £11.70 so not quite sure why it is different so I'll have to look into it but even so still nice to get some money back and lessen the 'junk' at home.

Great service from Mopay so now I'll have to get round to sending them my other phones.

  • I've not yet received a letter from my mortgage provider confirming if they have dropped my mortgage rate following the drop in base rate.

My mortgage deal is that my interest is whatever base rate is and it's always changed in the past so I've no reason to suspect it won't this time. My mortage payment is due on Monday so I'm looking forward to not only making the normal overpayment but the additional bit in respect of the difference between what I paid last month and the base rate change - hope that makes sense:rolleyes:

Been talking a lot at work this week about overpaying mortgage and what a difference a few extra payments can make so hopefully I've planted a few seeds:D

    Hi all

Random question that I would appreciate your views on. I'm thinking about changing my car. I have a 10 year old run around and normally do approx 2000-2500 miles a year (work away a lot). My car is probably only worth scrap value and currently has a few minor things wrong with it thatI'm guessing might be £300 ish to put right. I'm happy to spend this money but here is where the dilemma is - there is some pretty good deals to be had at the moment as the credit crunch has hit the car dealerships so I've been thinking is this a good time to change the car as opposed to in a couple of years time when my car will still be worth nothing but might have disintegrated and car prices may have gone up.

I'm only thinking of getting a second hand one for £2-3K, any thoughts:rolleyes: ???
