My OH also has some books (classics) she re-reads; unfortunately I take the same view on books as holidays - there are so many place (books) to see (read) why go to the same place twice?

Still I don't get (make) much time for reading except on holiday and occasionally when away on business. Need to improve on this though...

Could you not change your approach; if you read a book you like, mark it and read it once again, then check the library service has a copy so you can access it at a later date and sell your copy? Keep a spreadsheet or database of books and authors so you can retain the titles and comments etc.

This sounds like it could free up several hundred pounds (plus shelf space) if your description comes close to the true number of books you have?

    Mortgage-free Glee!
I'm afraid the one in one out thing wouldn't work for me as I re-read my books over and over again and can't bear to part with any of them. I've taken loads of stick from family over the years about it. In fact this is the first time in my life I have parted with any of them:o Another reason it wouldn't work is that i accumulate books at a rate of knots (almost couldn't afford my book habit but now buy lots from ebay) - I'd be too scared to even estimate how much I've spent on books over the years buying them new but I also use the library but....even if I read a good book from the library that often makes me want to buy my own copy (blushing again!)

I adore books too, which is why I always congratulate myself when I have No- Spend-month on books. I do re-read some and now my kids are alot older we all tend to read the same books.:D My problem is that if I'm not careful I can buy them faster than I can read them....

I have a few books that I'll definitely keep, such as all my Bill Bryson ones, but the others are slowly going either on Amazon or to the charity shop. My mum and brother buy loads so I nab those!

Hi Stuart, thanks for the reply, my ex-OH could never understand my ability (or wish!) to re-read books over and over - not to mention and - over again

As much as I love my spreadsheets I know that I'm never going to change my approach to books and I've been like this from being a very little girl:o

So far I've out-sorted about 20 and put them on e-bay as I will definately never read them again. I put them on when there was an offer whereby you only paid for the first listing but I seem to have been charged for them all so I must have a look into that

Hi SMF2 - aha, a like minded woman I see:D Yes, I always have a fairly large 'to read pile' . Something else I've always done, and I've only ever met one other person who does the same, is have more than one book on the go at the same time - sometimes could be up to 4 or 5 actually - on the odd time this has come up in conversation people look at me as if I have two heads - or even as if I've said I'm overpaying my mortgage :rotfl: :rotfl:

  • hehe, yes, I know that this money is mine anyway so not something for nothing but what with this, the £10 from my credit card, 53.61 from the electricity supplier and a few hundred still to come from Br Gas I feel like I've suddenly come into some money! As I say I know it was mine in the first place but it's still a nice feeling to get money back isn't it. Now, where's my old post office account passbook, I'm sure there's fiver in there;)

Would you believe I have 'found' some more money!!!!! It's come to light that there is a £38.76 credit on my old gas account from where I used to live almost two years ago. Actually, when I say come to light what I really mean is that I knew and then forgot about it (a long story I won't bore you with!) but this week I received a statement and it reminded me.

It makes you wonder doesn't it - I think of myself as an organised person but then when you start delving and finding money you are owed/forgot about it makes me wonder what other things I might have missed - runs to see if any old lottery tickets still in purse:rotfl:

PS wasn't joking about old post office account - I know I have one along with an old school account that had at least two quid in it.

Am I the only one who has been having a run of re-discovering money??

 oh, is this something else odd I do :rotfl:? I have a downstairs book, upstairs book & bath book. I think my love of books stems from when my aunt used to take me out every Saturday and buy me a new Enid Blyton. Mr Galliano's Circus anyone? Or Upper Fourth at Mallory Towers :D .
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Yes, I always finish books- even the thought of not finishing one would be enough to make me shiver:rotfl: I once read a series of book which was seven VERY thick books and I hated every page but I finished it (the reason was that people had raved about it and I just kept thinking 'it's got to get better' but it just didn't and I couldn't believe I'd read all 7:rolleyes:

haha, well if it is odd there are now at least two of us oddies and I think SMF2 is another. Mallory towers ahh, now you're talking but my absolute favourite enid blytons were the chalet school series as I always wished it was a real place so that I could go - even as a grown woman I wish the same! When I've skied in places that have been mentioned in the books I always think of the chalet school:o
