Do you live next door to my grandma? :rotfl:Thought she was the only OC driven person out there doing this but apparently not! (she also matches the coulour of the pegs to the clothes where possible!!:rotfl:)

Anyhoo- Washing Line. But then I don't have a lawn- only patio and decking, so not much choice :D

Well how weird is this. Yesterday my husband put me a whirly thing up - feminism is alive and well in our house ;) and I was just pegging stuff on it but thought there must be a best way to do it. Is it heavy stuff at the back, or at the front then take it in, layer by layer? It sure takes an age to dry.

I hate those whirly things. One of my houses had such a small garden I had no choice but to have one and found it a real pain. Washing on the inside take forever to dry and your washing never has a real good blow in the wind.

I have now got a line although it is not really long enough as my garden is not that big and it is much much better.

  • Thank you all for making me feel better.....are you my neighbour ela?!!!

I was begging to think I was the only person on the planet who had this form of OCD. I have to use the same colour of pegs when hanging out an item on the line. Thankfully I am not that bad yet that they dont have to match the colour of the item of clothing. But now you have planted that idea in my head you never know......:rotfl:

Love to see a line of washing :D

I love my Whirly. Do like things pegged out just so though.
A line would take up too much space.
I take my Whirly down when I am not using it and keep it in my outside loo (yes i have an outside loo!) - it keeps it clean imo.

LOL reading throuhg this. My neighbour wont mix coloured pegs for the same item, funy watching her look for 2 pegs the same colour. I have both, the WG is in the sun and the line in the shade, so i put my blacks on the line, my socks get thrown on the trampoline, not spending time hanging them up takes ages.

The washing gets put on the line in the order it comes out of the machine. :-)

Oh my lord!! The day I am looking for the same colored pegs is the day you can lock me up. I've got 5 kids, a cat, a dog, and a house to run. I'm a childminder and I write books on top of that. Do you honestly think I've got time and space in my head to worry about what color my pegs are???
I mean come on!.. does this person not have anything better to do? :D

I only hang large sheets and towels on the outside of the whirly because they'll hit the ground otherwise but that's about it. For the rest it gets hanged in the order in which I can grablle it out of the basket. And no I don't care if my neighbours see my undies either. If they want to have look, I hope they enjoy it! :D

What I am curious about though is what happens when the washing is pegged 'wrong'?.. It might take a little bit longer to dry I suppose but there's no harm done is there? Or what if the pegs are the wrong color?.. Does it really make you feel uncomfortable? Can you not move on to the next chore and forget about it?

I use wooden pegs so couldn't care less about the colour. What really surprises me though are the people who leave their pegs permanently clipped onto their whirlygigs all year round, especially wooden pegs. Over time they get very dirty, mouldy or rusty and leave really dirty marks all over the washing where it is pegged. Perhaps they just can't be bothered to bend down & pick the pegs up out of a container?

I keep mine in a little basket that has a hook on it. I hang that on the line so that I don't have to keep bending down.

I also use the old babybath tub that I used for the children as a washbasket. AND the stand that it sat as well. So when I go to hang the washing up, I stick the washbasket (tub) on it's stand next to my whirly. That saves me a lot of bending and stretching. :D

I had a whirly at my previous house - very small area but it was on the patio so that helped - reflected heat...have a line now.
erm and all yellow pegs and I am fussy about how my washing is pegged out too. ;)
But some of you already know this LOL:cool::D
My peg bag I made myself (and it's lined and French seamed LOL) with shoulder straps for ease and comfort...
I used to have much more time on my hands...

But I have to wipe my line down VERY frequently as my neighbours have, and use, a chimnea at night...so a whirly would be much harder to keep clean or would need putting away/covering all the time.

another one here who pegs tops upside down and trousers from the top

the only tops that stay up the right way and pegged from shoulders is the football shirts

cos i think if there up side down then the team will loose ( madness i know)

and i too peg socks in pairs LOL

and also i have a little peg basket and they dont get left on the gig cos your right they get dirty and you get marks on the clean washing
