I have a whirly but think I will need to replace the line I it soon as it is wearing dangerously thin in places!! It was here when we bought the house.

In another house we had a really long garden and I had a washing line - again it was there when we bought the house and the previous owner had this pulley system installed on it so it went REALLY high in the air! It was lovely watching my bedding and towels billow in the breeze. I will have to look into replacing the whirly with washing line- garden is fair size so it might work!

Also- this thread reminded me of something my old HV used to tell me: In the good ol' days when everyone line dried their terry nappies, neighbours could keep an eye on the new mums in the street by watching their washing- if no nappies/laundry was being hung out it was taken as a sign that the new Mum was not coping very well and help would be offered! Not sure how true it is but nice though!!

We have both. Mainly use the line, but when the weather is fantastic and I decide to do all the washing on one day, I use the line and the whirlygig. My whirlygig is quite old, used to be OH's mothers and we've had it 10 years, no signs of rust.

Must agree I love seeing my washing drying on the line.

I'm another washing line fan too & I'm very paticular about how it is pegged out! I put everything together and make all sock face in the same direction lol!! I had a whirlygig years ago & it took twice as long for anythng to dry on it against a flat line.

I have a whirlygig, but not through choice. I did have a washing line up until last summer, but it was tied to the fence and the back porch, and it kept breaking as I have so much washing...so we brought a whirlygig!!

Washing line all the way for me, had a whirly gig and hated it - bedding was a pain to get dry on it. Also I just love to see all my washing blowing in the sunshine (although I am quite particular how it should be pegged!! - sad I know!)

Think it's more common than you think!! I can't stand anyone else putting my washing on the line, it has to be pegged a certain way, and if anyone else does it, I end up having to redo it all!! Fussy or what?

I have both, but have been a bit disappointed with my washing line as it seems to 'lengthen and dip' during the drying time - even though I wrap it tightly around it's little 'notch thing' to hold it tightly. And as for the two so-called props that I got from Argos, well don't even go there  ! My whirly-gig works just fine for me and my king-size duvet covers fit perfectly over my landing bannister :j.

I also have a confession to make - my name is Olliebeak and I too am a 'pegaholic' :o! I also count socks into the washing machine and back out again - have done for years since my kids were very small when they sometimes disappeared down the sides of the spin-dryer!

I've just had a conversation with my DH about how I hang the washing out and he thinks it's weird how i do it....i peg my clothes out so they hang upside down and i always pair my socks up (so i can fold one sock over the other to pair them up together...easier to sort when i take upstairs).

I've have had both kinds of washing lines over the years but i think my post and line works the best and my washing looks so good blowing in the wind...one of my daily delights is watching it...i know i'm a very sad lady!

Been having a giggle reading through this thread, thanks!:D first giggle in ages. And such a relief to know i'm not alone! :TI have a whirly, garden's too small for a line. I hate it! takes ages for the washing to dry! I too am particular about how the washing is pegged. And hung. my oh thinks i'm a fuss about it.:o but things do dry better if they're hung out properly. i love seeing my lovely clean washing on the line. and it's much fresher and nicer smelling than if you have to dry indoors.

    Washing line for me too.
I have one of the double retractable ones from Lakeland, only cost about £12 and it's realy good.
I had to have a whirly one in my last house(after 26 years of using a washing line) and I hated it.Drove me mad.
Give me a line of washing blowing nicely any day.

Another one who's fussy about pegging out. Tops have to be hung from the bottom and bottoms have to be hung from the top! :D
