I wouldn't ever criticise mismatched pegs though - but I do like things to look nice;) so hanging 'upside down' is a definite no-no!

Valli turn your head upside down and look at the smilies for this demo!

My neighbours think I have OCD because I always pin out with matching coloured pegs - looks so untidy otherwise:rotfl:

I have a line and a whirly - used to have four poles ( nightmare getting rid of the bases though - huby had to hire a stilsaw to remove the poles then we had to bury the bases are they were too heavy to lift out - that is probably why we left two;)) but took two of them down when our 2DS came alog to give them room to play on the grass. The washing dries quite well on the whirly as it get the sun all day - but line is great for sheets and towels. Do like it to look neat so spend half the day re- arranging it as things dry.

I've just had a conversation with my DH about how I hang the washing out and he thinks it's weird how i do it....i peg my clothes out so they hang upside down and i always pair my socks up (so i can fold one sock over the other to pair them up together...easier to sort when i take upstairs).

I've have had both kinds of washing lines over the years but i think my post and line works the best and my washing looks so good blowing in the wind...one of my daily delights is watching it...i know i'm a very sad lady!

We must be related I too peg my washing upside down, and have done for almost 50 years. I prefer a washing line, and years ago loved to see a line of sparkling white nappies blowing in the breeze .I hate it when people leave their pegs on the line instead of removing them, they must get very rusty after awhile.I always take mine in my late Mum always said it was only lazy women who couldn't be bothered to unpeg their pegs and must have too much money to waste on them.
Always start nearest the house with small stuff, knickers ,bra's socks ect and graduate to the bigger stuff as it gets further down the garden and then it gets hoisted up in the air via the prop.Just forse of habit I suppose and I must be a bit sad as well

.....Whirly is 'out of sight' so out of mind, a washing line would be in my face and I imagine I would be a reformed launderess if I had one.........

Have you thought of moving your whirly - just a case of putting another spike/socket in the ground? One of the posters on this thread said that she has two sockets for hers so that she can change position as the sun moves around the garden - think I may do that myself :T.

Ha! My whirly gig can be seen from space!
I got it from Lidls for about 14 quid a few years ago and it turned out to be almost industrial sized - far too big really, but I take it down when I'm not using it. Nearly had a fit though when I saw it in all its glory on "Google Earth"......

I'm of the 'couldn't care less as long as it's getting dry' brigade :o I have a whirlygig, and prefer to peg out on that as there's less moving around (oh yes I'm terminally lazy too :o). I decided last year a line might be good, so got a retractable one, but due to our very small garden, in order to peg out you have to navigate over the top of the rabbit hutch, then over the bare patch of soil that my hubby has designated his 'veg patch' which barely leaves any space for clothes! I could do with a new and better whirlygig though as ours is a bit windswept

Washing line here too, we did have a whirligig but it became the leaning tower of washing after a while and then fell over!

The washing on the inside lines of the whirly one didn't dry well, whereas the washing on the straight line all dries evenly. The only drawback is it is a bit short, but we don't have a big garden so that's that really. Still much prefer it to the 'gig though.....
I don't have a prop, and am looking round for a long enough substitute to use instead, then the washing would dry even quicker!

You can buy a prop in wilkinsons for 3.99

I was always told to peg out things that you put on the bottom of your bod at the top - and peg out thiings that you put on your top half from the bottom.

I have a whirlygig but I would so much prefer to have a clothes line! whirlygigs have more spiders on them!

And I do find things don't dry as quickly, yes you can get loads on them but it's just not the same as a good old clothes line!

I've always pegged tops upside down so the peg marks are on the bottom and not the shoulders. And I always hang trousers and skirts by the waist.

I've got a whirlygig - would like a clothes line but I've only got one place for it and it would cut the garden in half where DS plays, he'd be running through it and pulling it off!
