I am making the Christmas cake today (yay!) but it takes 5 hours at 140 degrees....I was wondering if anyone has any other ideas as to what else I could use the oven for at the same time? It just seems a waste to have the oven on for that long and not use it for anything else but I can't think of much that goes in such a low oven!

I do a slow roasted pork or lamb joint at that temperature, brown it off first on the hob and then pop it in the oven for between 5 and 6 hours, you can cover it with foil if it is starting to get too well done on the outside and it comes out lovely and tender

    Vegetable crisps? eg. http://www.riverford.co.uk/feed/in:recipes/baked-beetroot-crisps/

Bit late in the year but drying herbs?

I think meringues need an even lower temperature.

    Thanks everyone!

I am allergic to eggs so no meringues here. Like the oranges idea!

Rice pudding? Or another of the milk-pudding family - tapioca, sago, that sort of thing?
