So, I've looked hard at monthly budget - I'm saving hard to buy and insure a car asap. Hopefully, I can also continue saving as this rate if it becomes habit enough as I have limited savings (just shy of £1000) at present.
NET Income £1450
Rent (inc bills) £475
Mobile Phone £25
Storage £100
Disposable Income £850
Savings Ac (ISA) £300
Emergency/Discretionary Ac £150
Holiday Ac £50
Money to live-off per month £350

New member here, Hello everyone :hello: I've had a slightly frightening but eventually enlightening afternoon using the budget brain tool on here. It's fab:T
Firstly, it told us we're overspending by £200 per month:( & although we don't have any debts (apart from a mortgage as my hubby is very anti-credit & it's a good job too cos I can be irresponsible with spending:o ) we have been chipping away at our savings in recent months. Added to that we spent 5k last year on IVF so our little nest-egg is dismishing- fast:eek:
Anyway, after the cyber-slap-on-the wrist courtesy of budget brain, we figured out that actually, by being more sensible about being a 2 car family, being less frivolous with takeaways, meals out, cinema trips, impulse buys, those "lets just pop to the shop for ice cream/wine/cake" trips, buying games & dvds and if I keep up with not smoking (not had a dirty death stick for 3 days now, feel great AND it also means I can't buy wine for the foreseeable cos if I drink, I will want to smoke but I have so, so many reasons to quit and none to start again) we could quite realistically reduce our spending by a thousand pounds a month! :T
So now we both feel a lot happier, a lot more in control & although it did take us a good few hours to do, it's well worth it. We now have a plan, my spreadsheet loving hubby is setting up a budgeting one & well, it's a good feelingI really recommend it :j
Thanks MSE! from Mrs(&Mr)B33
P.S. I only started smoking again after 4 yrs smoke free after IVF didn't work & I've been quite depressed - I'd hate for anyone to think I would ever dream of smoking through a pregnancy. Just needed to say that)0 -

Hi,
I am hoping someone will be able to make some recommendations about a good app for iPad for spreadsheets....
I am desperate to get a sheet up and running for all our bills etc.
For his birthday the other half had an iPad, which is super useful and I think we would both be encouraged to keep a spreadsheet uptown date on here as it is so easy to pick up and update....
However before this I have been a PC user so don't know a lot about apple software.
I don't mind investing in a decent app, if it will do what we want...

Hi
I use an app called moneyfree, only been using it a couple of days but very easy to use.
It's not really a spreadsheet type but u can list all bills, savings etc.0 -
'Numbers' is brilliant. Easier to use than Excel and syncs to my phone so I can see the figures wherever I am.Mortgage Free aged 31 :j Thanks, Martin and MSE! :money:0

Hi try the following:
=IF(A5>150.99,(A5*0.29),0)
A5 being the cell reference in this example where the person's salary amount is being input into the spreadsheet - just substitute the cell reference in your spreadsheet into the formula.
or in English, If the value of the salary is greater than £150.99, calculate 29% of that amount, otherwise the value is £0.00.
You may need to format the cell containing the formula as "currency" to two decimal places if you want a "£" to appear with the value.
Hope this helps.DFW'er - Lightbulb moment : 31st July 2009 - £18,499

I have just seen an advert for a new budget planner 'On Trees' (ontrees.com) that seems to have the support of all the major banks. At a brief initial glance it seems to be straightforward and user friendly.
Has anyone used this?0
