I use a simple equation for budgeting - spend less and you will save money, spend more and you will only end up in debt. I set a budget at the beginning of each month. Since, I don’t have the time to work on all those numbers; I use Budget worksheet to do the math, while I just enter the data. It’s really cool as I get to know how much I can spend during the month, so I can make a budget for other items such as having fun and going out.

It’s not always easy to save or budget, I am in my 20's and people of my generation do not budget in the same way as our parents did and now do. I am trying to adjust myself now and always on the lookout for new and refreshing tips on how budget

I am also interested in piggy banking. I have read about it and it gives me an excellent idea on how to successfully save and spend only on what I have. I think I would start to list on my priority. Thanks for posting this thread.

I like the MSE Budget Planner, but I would like a printable version with just the basics so that I can stick up on the notice board in the kitchen with dates payments are due etc.

anyone know of a spending tracker that also helps you budget exactly how much to save in your buffer for those things that you pay annually or quarterly? I have used the budget planner and added extra columns for spending category (monthly, quarterly, annually, unknown) and the month the item will be bought.... but i want to forecast for the year these items... i know on average i need to put aside £370s in a buffer per month for outgoings which are not monthly.. but of course thats an aevrage and as we are now a 1 income household, if i know now i wont have built enough of a buffer up in month 3, i have to cut down on small luxuries to get that buffer up - i dont want to fall short..

i could work it out the hard way now as i'm nearly there but i'm betting there is seomthing nifty out there that will do it better?

    tnx for any help

My friend was thinking of doing D.M.P. she was told they couldn't take the carers allowance she received or her sons DLA into consideration because they are benefits that can stop at anytime, they can only use proper incomes. hope this make sence and helps.

I took a whole afternoon doing the budget planner and was sent a link to retrieve it...but I cant seem to get it back! It's driving me crazy and I don't really want to spend another afternoon creating another. If anyone has had this problem and resolved it PLEASE could you tell me step-by-step.

    I would be very grateful!

    Sally,
I assume you have used the new online version? if so, there is a report problems option in top right corner where you can send email.

Personaly, I would use the spreadsheet version which you can save to your desktop.

You can still download MSE Excel version although it has not been updated for somewhile. If you want to send me a PM I can mail you a copy I updated.
