    Hello everyone

I have been reading through and am trying to understand everything so please bear with me.

    · I understand that with VOIP buster you can make calls costing 70p for the duration of the call? Or is this a one off charge?

    · Does anyone have a list of the service providers that allow you to make calls from your pc I am currently using virgin and have broadband, will they allow this or once I have downloaded the software it will work fine?.

    · Also I have a telephone that connects direct to my pc, can I receive calls through this or do I need a headset/ microphone?

    · To receive incoming calls I have to sign up with Sipgate and they will give me a local geographical number for my pc? Is this correct? Also please confirm that this service offers voicemail?

    · Is there a charge for setting this up? If so what is the cost?

    · I have Windows XP is this software compatible?

    · I note from pervious posts that by using Xlite (because of better quality) will be better, however to take advantage of the unlimited calls supplied by Voipbuster the two need to be used in conjunction?

    · What is Sype? Is it similar to Sipgate?

Finally I am now totally confused :wall: so please would someone explain what I need to do in lament terms please.

Answer: No, you download the client from VOIPBUSTER and send them a payal amount of £5(actually euros) and you can phone all landlines for 1p min all the time, but other coutries cost more, see there rates. If you want free calls to landlines then don't use VOIPBUSTER use VOIPCHEAP.COM(or is it .co.uk) This will allow you to make free landline calls, but also need to pay £5 fee to make calls for longer than 1min via paypal.

(If you are using a PC switched, then get a VOIPCHEAP account, and a Aria B2K box for £17 from so you can use a standard telephone (also u need to have a landline or the box fails to work properly, but a fix should be avail soon)

Answer : Don't use someone who charges rental(monthly) and rates are prob higher

Answer: Which phone do you have, you may not need an Aria b2K box, make please.

Yes, but I dont use it, I have a cordless telephone with a built in voicemail, so after 5 ring it records a message directly to it. I have Sipgate for incoming and use VOIPBUSTER for outgoing purely because i can have it setup together using X-Lite and using X-TenMate with a Aria B2K box, I dont have to touch my PC, just leave it logged in.

    · Is there a charge for setting this up? If so what is the cost?

Sipgate (free), VOIPBUSTER or VOIPCHEAP are £5(euros) for calls >1min, but you cannot configure VOIPCHEAP with X-LITE, and so can't have both VOIPCHEAP and SIPGATE running together without having to mess about with key on the PC.

    · I have Windows XP is this software compatible?

    Yes

    · I note from pervious posts that by using Xlite (because of better quality) will be better, however to take advantage of the unlimited calls supplied by Voipbuster the two need to be used in conjunction?

No, you can configrue Sipgate and VOIPBUSTER together [1p min landline] (but not VOIPCHEAP, which is free landline calls and cheaper other)

    · What is Sype? Is it similar to Sipgate?

    Forget Skype, too expensive

Finally I am now totally confused :wall: so please would someone explain what I need to do in lament terms please.

    1. Get a Sipgate account with local tel no. of choice, (dont buy and credit)
    2. Download VOIPBUSTER client, create account, pay £5 euro, once done remember details and uninstall the VOIPBUSTER client)
    3. Buy Aria B2K box (£17 aria.co.uk or use existing voip phone, maybe)
    4. Download X-lite (configure it, a little tricky at first)
    5. Use Standard Telephone with aria box with live PSTN Line present (or use your VOIP phone)
    6. Download X-Tenmate

    I hope this makes sense.

no a USB box, needs PC to be on, if you want one without the use of a PC you need a pap2 (a little more expensive), but then you also need a router, or will only be able to use you adsl/broadband connection on your PC or you PAP2 device, unless of course you provider allow you to have two IP addresses from its DHCP server.

Not sure why you are only hearing part of the message, when I have tested voicemail on the system, there hasn't been a problem. I however don't have voicemail switched on (only when testing) as I have another Sipgate number purely for voicemail that people ring if they can't contact me any other way.

I would try changing the following settings under the Line1 or Line 2 section

    Register Expires: [Set to 60]

Proxy Fallback Intvl: [Set to 180]

Is it just Sipgate you have on your PAP2 or do you also have SIP Discount or VoIP Stunt, so you can make free calls?

    Hi

Changed as you suggested (thank you) it has fixed the problem of the partial outgoing message and everything works fine if the phone goes unsanswered but the incoming caller still hears silence for ages when the phone is busy before the outgoing message starts. If it was a customer they would definiately ring off.

    Any help appreciated

    Hi everyone

i have a linksys wrt54gp2 router with 2 phone ports and a sipgate account but i cant get my phones to ring

if i turn on the pc my x-tapi xlite program pops up on the screen when the line is called but if i turn off the pc and phone the number it just goes dead

i have input all of my details into the router and the status of my line 1 is online and idle

i have 2 normal bt type phones 1 £8 cheapy and 2 bt calypso cordless's but cannot get either to ring

i know this shouldnt matter but have added this comment for diagnostic purposes even when the pc is on i cannot get either of the phones to ring

correct me if i am wrong but i am sure i should be able to get my phones to ring through my router

just noticed that my cheap phone does have a dial tone and i when i call the number from my mobile i can here it ringing at the mobile end but the phone still doesnt ring. do i need some special cable or gagdet between the router and the normal bt type phone

any help would be greatly appreciated

When you call your VoIP numbers do you hear the ringing on the line from phone you are calling from?

If yes, have you tried picking up the VoIP phone you are ringing to see if it connects?

If it does it sounds like you don't have a ring capacitor on the line.

Many designed for UK use phones need the ring capacitor so the phones can ring out.

Though with DECT that's not required as the phone has to generate the ringing itself on the handset.

Are you using an RJ11 to BABT adapter like the one here or are you using an RJ11 to RJ11.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I decided to try this out, but just using a headset, not phone and router etc.

I like the convenience of being able to make a phone call from my computer very much, and the idea is definitely a good one. BUT the quality of the service is not up to scratch:
    1. I often have to virtually shout into the phone in order to be heard properly
    2. Sometimes people on the other end can't hear me at all. Yet I can hear them. I don't like having someone going "hello?", "hello?" until they hang up. Sometimes this happens mid-call and it's very embarassing.
    3. Pressing numbers on the phone to navigate a phone menu never works. Either the numbers I press aren't recognised or the wrong number of numbers are received at the othe end. With some systems I get put through to an operator with others I just get stuck and can't get through.

In conclusion, this could be good if it really worked. As it is, it's a bit of a gimmick.

spent nearly 3 hours reading this thread last night! so go easy on me.
I have set up Voip Buster/voip cheap and am able to use my headset to make calls. I then signed up for a telephone number and called myself which i can do no problems.

So the next stage is i want to use my router Lynksys wrt54g(I think) to connect my cordless phone up. So what is it i need to do?

I have to buy the little adapter thingy which i will do today.

I read that i need a normal telephone line? Is that right? As i dont have one.

    Fantastic thread guys

  • Hi,
I have installed voipbuster and paid 10 euros. If i uninstall voipbuster and install voipcheap do i get to keep the 10 euros and will it be the same settings as voipbuster? Hope this makes sense :j
