  • for those using this free number with X-Lite:

    1) is there any way to record the calls (to PC *.wav or other format)?
    2) is there an option for voice mail or recording machine?

If these are not present in X-Lite, is there another compatible soft-phone that offers it?

What I am trying to get is a simple system in which I can reply to VOIP calls (to my sipgate number) when in front of my PC, but that can still take messages (as a recording machine) when I am not in front of it!

BTW: at present wat happens if you call a sipgate greographical number and the person is not connected to X-lite? Will the tone by free but noone replying, or will it give an error message?

The sipgate/X-lite setup acts as a virtual normal answerphone. If you call a sipgate number when the pc is off, you get a recorded anouncement immediatly telling you the person you called is not there, then aksks you to leave a message. The person you called gets a missed call list when the pc is switched on with a message receiving facitiy, you can presumably store these massages.

Only if you switch the voicemail service on, which you do via the Sipgate website.

If you have voicemail switched off (like I do on my non-voicemail numbers - don't believe people should be forced to pay for a call I can't answer - that is for those who have to pay) and you are not connected to the Sipgate service, the call will hear the engaged tone.

    1) I believe there are many programs out there that will record audio from the PC from the sound that is playing through your sound-card, as X-Lite is a piece of software that uses your sound-card, this should be pretty easy to do with 3rd party software.

    2) Yes, log into Sipgate, you then have an option to switch voicemail on, you can set the time limit before voicemail kicks in, and also if you wish it to kick in on busy. You can have the messages emailed to you if you wish. You can alter your out going messages and access your messages by dialling 50000.

  • Right, got the sipgate number (had to use Tesco dial up in the end)

am i right in thinking that all I need now is the

Linksys PAP2 Unlocked Voice over Broadband (VoIP) Phone Adapter (NOT VONAGE) £44.14

this will go into my wireless Netgear Router (doesn't have a viop port) oh and i think I need a

Broadbandbuyer US Plug to BT Socket Adapter w/Ring Capacitor £2.57

I think this is what i need to be able to connect my wireless DECT phone to the voip

Yeah, that is what you require. You might want two US Plug to BT Socket Adapters, as the PAP2 has two separate lines. Or you could butcher an RJ11 cable and wire it to a BABT master socket.

Is that so I could have 2 voip numbers or do i need two sockets for one number?

just read some of the reviews on broadbandbuyer about the Linksys PAP2 and frightened myself silly Seems impossible to configure unless you are an expert

It is indeed so you can have two VoIP numbers.

You can have several phones attached to each line (number) as you would your standard service.

The PAP2 is pretty easy to setup, if you need any help, just PM me.
