I have been reading your posts and just wanted to say how much I admire your strength of character through this ordeal. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it all works out for you.

Hubby had interview with them on thursday. They have said until my 28 days are up here we are not technically homeless. Presumably then we will be a priority as we will be classed as living on the streets. Can't say I am surprised.

Have filled out all the forms and they have 21 days to respond.

in all honesty you should have got on the LA housing list months ago, before it was needed so badly, about the same time you decided BR was inevitable, by now, plus the time it would have taken the brewery to actually evict you and with all due process done the LA would be bound to have housed you probably

Max, I appreciate you might be trying to be helpful, but that sort of comment isn't very useful at this stage of the OP's difficulties. We all could have done things differently, we all might have made decisions earlier if we'd known how long they'd take to finally resolve, if we'd been able to see into the future. Maybe if you'd been similarly blessed, you wouldn't have done business with the customer who went into liquidation owing you £12,000 or would have done business with them on different terms, or wouldn't have got/used your credit cards etc. I've got loads of "If only" & "Why didn't I?" & "I wish I had" moments in my back catalogue, & I don't suppose you're any different. :)

    Hi FP

Hope Skeggy is sunny on this Bank Holiday!! (all the rain is down south appparently)

In all this turmoil its best to remember that `we are where we are`& the circumstances of how we got there are past now.

Max does highlight a good point though (put with your usual bluntness Max!) that will be helpful to anyone who is going through what you have been through. There are many in the Pub trade suffering & struggling through a tough marketplace at the moment & no doubt will be panicking as you have done. Your position has highlighted how little support there is for anyone considering leaving a job that comes with live-in accomodation... even with children!

I know in your situation you had to move quickly & I admire the strength that you & your family have to get through this. Well done so far.

Lots of hugs Sweetie , Angelx

If the OP keeps in mind MY arguement then maybe when/if the LA come up with the exact same questions she/he will be ready with answers, they will also know what to expect, forewarned is forearmed i was always told, if you know what to expect you can have an answer ready, that is my point in posting the previous messages

In effect the OP now knows what the housing department will use as a means to avoid housing them, which seems to be the whole reason for their existence

Perhaps you should have included that point in the previous post then, which would indeed have been helpful, & would certainly have tempered the "stab with a rusty knife" effect of it. Without this additional content, your post came across as blaming her for not being more organised. I think she's probably blaming herself enough without any of us adding to that, though you may not have meant it that way. :)

Forestpottsy, please let us know what Shelter have to say on this. Maybe they can even ring the council on your behalf. It shouldn't be but often is the case that the council person you speak to has made their own interpretation of the rules to fill in the gaps in their own knowledge. Often, no-one questions them. But if you go back to them or if an official organisation contacts them & corrects them, especially if they speak to a manager/supervisor with more knowledge under their belt, they'll realise a mistake has been made & will correct it once a sharp reminder of the legalities is made. :)

The OP wont get many surprises by snotty council officials if she has already had them put to her here online without any harm possible, I know cos ive been where she is now, not the pub issue but certainly staring at putting the family into a B&B, which is the first thing any half-trained housing official will slap in their face "we are under no legal requirment or statutory duty to rehouse you"

ive been there, and they love seeing your face when they say it, in the knowledge your next step will be (they hope) that you beg £1500 to go after a private let, which again is odd, because your next move will be to apply to them for housing benefits to pay the rent!

i feel sure that (for example) the CAB would have told the OP all bout the legalities of welfare housing rules and regs though given that they were pub tenants with tied accomodation.

They tried telling me my medical condition wasn't on their list of ones that gave you more housing points so I therefore wasn't entitled to be rehoused any quicker than anyone else, & gave me a list of hostels & housing associations to try. I pointed out to them that my condition not being on their list didn't mean I didn't need rehousing on medical grounds - one didn't necessarily follow the other. It took my doctor & my local councillor getting on the case plus me being prepared to attend an independent assessment before they backed down. I didn't even need to go to the independent assessment in the end - as soon as they knew that I knew I could challenge them, would challenge them & was likely to win they not only gave me medical points, but gave me medical priority & I wasn't down as "one offer only" either. I turned down two others before accepting this flat, & I had priority over a woman who was pregnant, something I didn't expect.

There are some very snotty-nosed council workers (I know, I have to deal with some of them every week), but there are also some who do want to do a good job. The OP has to stand her ground, & get recognised organisations & the local councillor involved if they can. No disrespect to the CAB, but when I told them that I'd been given the list of hostels & HAs their response was "let's do a ring round then". If I'd let it go at that, goodness knows where I'd be living now. FP & her OH have to stand up to them, as well as the OR.

I do agree with you Max that people who have been through a similar situation can greatly help and can offer pertinent advice however people like me who have yet to go through this can often only offer goodwill and hope that everything DOES turn out for the best.
