i went in with my partner to do our weekly shop and we decided to get a bottle of drink but we got to the tills and they asked me for i.d which i dont have (they know im over 18 and have served me b4) , my partner was paying 4 the shopping so i told them he was the one buyin it so he showed them his i.d and they refused to serve him just because i never had i.d, this is so stupid as what would they do if someone took there kids shopping surly they cant ask the kids for i.d apparenlty its a new policy to ask anyone who is at the till at the time of purchasing alcohol to provide i.d

I think you will find Asda's will also ask you for I.D. If the person doesn't look over 21 then the licensing act requires they ask for I.D.
The person serving you was quite within their rights to refuse to sell alcohol to your partner as they suspected the drink was for you and you couldn't provide I.D.
BTW, this applies to all age restricted products.Between two evils, I always pick the one I never tried before0 -
my wife does the same if she knows someone has no id,yet the other person tries to buy booze she also refuses,at the end of the day its her job and a massive fine on the line, iam sure u survived 1 day without boozeLive in my shoes for a week, then tell me your lifes hard!0

yeah with individual fines of £1000 pounds and loss of licence for store its not worth the hassle .
If in doubt ask its the safest way

It is getting a bit silly, but they have to ask. There must be a level of common sense applied though. I know a police woman who is 41, she was refused because she had no ID in ASDA. Most of the managers know her as she has nicked enough of their shoplifters.... but the new 10 year old shop assistant did'nt.... She did'nt get her bottle of wine.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0

That doesn't mean they will remember who you are.

Ha ha How true
How many people do you think they serve at that counter in a week. Always used to make me laugh when I worked in a huge city centre pub and I got "But you know me -you've served me before" line. Why would they remember you especially ? Sounds a bit egotistical to me.
The way the law works now and with cameras in stores you end up with a situation where a staff member needs to be SEEN to be checking so could even end up IDing a neighbour simply because if they aren't SEEN to be checking those who look under age they can get into trouble.
Never mind when you're forty you'll appreciate looking young for your ageI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

How old are you may i ask ?
as if its a case of you being late 20's and you definitely look over 18 then common sense is all that's required
not so long ago a man of 70 odd was refused by a local supermarket as he had no ID i find that so  stupid ok i know its law but as somebody else said its down to common sense if you definitely look over 18 then there shouldn't be a problem.
p.s i just checked my wallet out of interest just to see if i had age definitely ID but i don't i have 2 credit cards 2 debit cards and 3 work passes all with photos on now if i showed them a work pass with a photo then common sense and don't you have to be 18 to have a credit cardHi there! lots of sensible retailers selling age-related products use the challenge 21 policy.
the assistant was correct this time im afraid, they have policies to follow.
she can't sell it to the person with you, knowing it was you who tried to buy it but couldn't produce ID.
The fines for selling age-related products can lie with the assistant herself, or at the very least she would be subject to a disciplinary .
I would advise you to carry suitable ID with you ,so next time you can have that bottle of wine with your dinnerBring back mark and lard NOW! or else (please) clique member no. 10 :j
