I was under the impression than anyone present at the time alcohol is sold must be 18, and must produce ID when asked, hence they wouldn't serve the OP as they didn't BOTH have ID.
I've bought alcohol many times, my eight year old and two year old have not had to show their ID.Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -
If they asked Freddie for ID, I would take it as a compliment, but if they refused to serve me, they can go back to their day job and put the whole lot back on the shelf!0

That doesn't mean they will remember who you are.

I know it's easy to remember the staff in a shop but have you ever worked in retail and tried the other way around?
You'll see over 1000 faces a day, the customers don't realise this. Unless a member of staff makes it clear they recognise you don't assume they do because you recognise them. When you see over 1000 faces a day you won't take in any faces in unless theres something unique about them or they may chat daily etc.
So the "plus if they know shes over 18 then that means they know here therefore will remember her" is just an assumption unless you actually know they know her.
Remembering a handful of faces that work in a shop is easy. Remembering the entire population of a small town will almost be impossible. You might think you know everyone but I bet the population is at least 1000, a small town most often will have a population of 3000 to 10,000.
Now think about everyone you actually know, it's not going to be anywhere near a 4 figure number is it! Therefore you can't expect the staff to remember everyone.
The other way of understanding it is you remember the staff of a few shops, it's easy. Now imagine you visited 1000 shops in one day, would you be able to remember who worked in which shop then? Of course not. Thats why the staff in any one shop also won't always be able to remember every customer thats came in.0
