The reason is that if you were to serve anyone who looked over 18 there is a much greater chance that the person is under 18 than if you ask for ID from anyone that looks over 21. If you're under 21 but over 18 you still get served as long as you have ID. It's so fewer under-18s get served.
ASDA have challenge 25. Cheeky !!!!!!s didn't ID me the last time I was in.
the tesco near me have a challenge 30 policyNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
I would have just left all the shopping there and gone elsewhere.
The countrys gone nuts!
So, if I go shopping (I'm 32), with my male cousin, who is 19, they could refuse to serve me with alcohol, because I am with someone who could possibly look younger than 18? Even though NONE of the shopping is for him (lets say I am doing a large shop and he come with me to help me carry the bags)?
That's ridiculous!
if you were to say to your cousin(whether he's 17 or 19) while your loading the belt with your shopping "you can have that tonight" they checkout assistant could refuse you the alcohol as you said that he could have the drink tonight

Its damm annoying. I'm closer to 30 than 20 yet last year I filled my car with petrol, took my baby daughter out the car in her seat to go into the shop to pay for it and was asked for proof of age!! I had my licence in my wallet but really what were they thinging and what if I had no ID on me. Sometimes i just think they have to ask a certain number a day and pick the ones they think are likly to have proof.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000

I think its a good thing that sellers of age restricted goods are taking their responsibilties seriously. It isnt the company that is punished it the person that actually sells the goods. As for the seller refuseing to sell to the other person they can also be punished for knowingly selling age restricted goods that end up in the hands of those underage. This is somthing that has needed to be done for years especially with the problems the country aparently has with drinking.LilacPixie wrote: »Its damm annoying. The strange thing is that if you bought only petrol then to drive a car you need to be over 16 anyway so asking for ID in that case is pointless. A quota isn't how things work, if they beleive you are under age it is best to ask for ID that later discover that you are underage.0 -
I was under the impression than anyone present at the time alcohol is sold must be 18, and must produce ID when asked, hence they wouldn't serve the OP as they didn't BOTH have ID.
I'm in my late 20s and got ID'd about 10 months ago. I just nipped into Tesco to pick up a bottle of wine to take to dinner at a friend's house, and despite showing them my driving license, she wouldn't serve me as it wasn't a photo license!! I even had my tesco card to prove I was the same person, but they wouldn't accept it! I pointed out that I would have to be at least 27 to have a paper driving license, given that they started issuing the photo ones in 1998, but I had to leave empty handed.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
A friend got ID'd the other day at Asda, where their policy is Challenge 25, and she is 22. As she was getting out her ID, I pointed out to the lady on the till that it was NON-alcoholic beer, she said she still had to prove she was over 18. Does that make sense?!I won't suffer, be broken, get tired, or wasted

It used to be commonplace in a supermarket, to see a group of teenagers go in,choose some alcohol, then scuttle off ,and all hand over money to one of the group, who would then go through the checkout to pay, followed by the rest of the posse. It used to strike me as incredibly obvious, partly because I had seen the money change hands.Tesco are trying to tackle this, best of luck to them.0

yes, because some "NON alcoholic" beers actually contain up to 0.5% alcohol!! Although most have much less than this, and some are actually 0%.
Alcohol free versions:
Becks 0.05%
Kaliber 0.05%
Stella Artois 0.5%Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
