Its a penny! Relax, there's worse things going on in the world than you being short changed by 1p!

I'm guessing they wash about 10 cars an hour. And work 8 hours a day, 6 days a week.

So if it's only a penny to you, then you can give me a penny 10 times every hour, 8 hours a day, for 6 days a week, for the next month.

    1p x 10 x 8 x 6 x 4 = £19.20

I'll round it up to £20 (as you don't mind the whole rounding up thing), so you can just send me a cheque (or £20 note) at the end of the month yeah?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

    you cryed over a penny

    Get life!

    :)

That's what I thought first. But then I remembered when I was at the petrol station a while ago, I was a penny under and the cashier demanded I pay that penny. So if businesses can demand we pay every single penny, consumers should be able to demand every single penny change.

I have been far too upset, and just thinking about not receiving my 1p change is making me all teary eyed....
I would stay and chat but I cant spend any more time on here - apparently I need to get a life.
Can any of you wise owls explain to this distraught middle aged gentleman how to get a life?
Does it involve football and drinking lots of alcoholic beverages?
Must I go PWOOOOARRRRR LOOK AT THE JUGS ON HER everytime an attractive female passes by?
I need to know as I thought I had a pretty happy life with not a care in the world BUT this penny incident has made me evaluate my meaningless existance.
I hang my head in shame and will now put the kettle on and have a pot noodle whilst watching Judge Judy.

I watch Judge Judy when I get home from work. :rotfl:
  • I could be wrong but thee is something in the back of my mind that says the onus is on the customer to provide the right money not the seller to provide change ... although the reality is very different.

I quite like the system used in some American shops, they leave a saucer of 1cent coins by the till and if the total is e.g. $x.98 or $x.99 it is left up to the individual on whether or not they take the change (some do, some don't).

Personally I always ask for shrapnel to be put in the Charity box (assuming one is present).

Take a penny leave a penny! There's always about 6 cents in them.

Ohhhh I am the idiot for asking for my change.

so2006. Do me a little favour for the next few days, go on you know you want to.
When you go to a shop to buy something, pay them a penny less each time and report back on how many of the shops asks for the penny.

As for deleting this thread - errrr It is a relevant vent about being short changed.
I use the novel approach when I read a thread not worthy of "diskspace" - I dont reply, thus saving even more "diskspace"

Advent, I think you misunderstood the advert. Car wash from 1.99 means you take 1.99 from an arbitrary number, in this case it happened to be 2.00, therefore you owe them 1p. Obvious innit.

Seriously, as long as shops persist in using the stupid notion of prices ending with 99, (p or pound, it doesn't matter) I insist on getting my change. Whether I put it in a jar at home or a charity pot at POS is my decision. The American dish of shrapnel is a good idea but for the fact that it wouldn't be necessary if prices ended with zeros.

    I don't think it's stupid. :p

Generally it forces the cashier to put the sale through the till to get the change (so they don't just pocket the money). Additionally, there is the marketing aspect, 1.99 being seen as a lot lower than 2, etc.
