It's long and green,
And looks obscene,
And always gets me burpin'.
But I must confess,
I like nothing best
Than a nice big pickled gherkin. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

For a simplicity and cheapness in a real meal, I challenge anyone to beat 100g of boiled spaghetti, tossed with some grated cheese. You can even factor in the cost of the 1/4 teaspoon of salt in the pasta water.
I have been eating this for lunches for years;
My cheapest meal though is a cheap packet of noodles [the ones that are usually 8p each] with pepper and mayo - meal for 10p. Discovered this one when I was 'WELL skint' 10 years ago; but still love it.0 -

Fish finger sarnies with toasted bread but all must be stone cold. Addition of mayo to this is a good one.
Didn't someone say sugar sarnies was a wartime thing?OH eats tinned tomatoes on toast which makes me baulk
Yup my mum does this!0 -
One of the things I eat that no-one else does goes by the name of 'Mush on Toast'
Consisting of:
tinned tomatoes
cheese
mushrooms
onions
any leftover ham or corned beef
Cook all ingredients together in a saucepan til they look like mush then chuck on toast!!
