Thanks for all you updates, MW. Flight was cancelled yesterday - plane couldn't leave Gatwick. Managed to book the Saturday flight. Cross fingers. We then get the shuttle to Manchester, live in North Wales.
At least weather's pick up here and we should have one warm day!
Jem, I do realise about the allowances, My comments were short hand. IR had me earning a salary, having teachers' pension and state pension!Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Thanks Polly - It was a one trick wonder yesterday and the temps are really up and snow is melting rapidly. Donny-Gal will gut me if she has bad weather crossing my patch on her way to Dover. She should have full on sun if the forecast is right. Hope you enjoy the rest of your enforced stay. Will keep an eye on Manchester weather and of course North Wales.member # 12 of Skaters Club

Fingers crossed for tomorrow!
Yesterday and today were glorious in Florida. Funny how things work out; OH and I are so happy!! DS had an interview for a great job yesterday - he got it! To cap it all he told us that he and lovely GF are moving in together, with a view to marrying next year.
Our five weeks away are ending on such a high!

Well done MW, we had a beautiful trip through Kent, sun shining. Caught the ferry OK and we are now in Dunkerque.
Have had a gorgeous weekend with DS & GF, and was nice to meet her Dad (had met her Mum) they are both nice, and they treat us to a lovely meal on Friday eveing. Saturday was spent inthe National History Museum with DS & GF, and then we went on to the show We Will Rock You, and they met us again after the show and we went to a nice Italian in Cheam it was a lovely day, even though it rained in the morning.
Me them again this morning for a coffee, and then caught the 1600 ferry, no nice restaurant open on the boat as it was closed for kitchen refurbishment, and the cafeteria was adequate but not marvellous, then saw that there was now a RestauMarche at Loon Plage as you come out, and where our hotel is, so could have eaten there, next time Normandy Ferries can keep their pie and chips.

Made it home yesterday!
Snow all gone -- bit hard to believe the problems!
Took age to wade through the post, then struggle to stay up until 10. Thanks to Wallender, I made 10.30. Didn't wake up until 11, though.
Unpacked and sorted washing, done e-mails. Can now relax, apart from ironing.
Hope you enjoy trip, DG. Thanks for all the up-dates ,MW.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Arrived OK at Poitiers - very misty foggy drive, but no real traffic problems.

Hi to all from Digger Mansions, Xmas to ourselves, mainly spent eating and answering phone. Very relaxed.
Went for 2 week ski holiday in Italy, not all the family came due to work commitments, but all the grandkids were there. The 5 year old twins had their first ski holiday, magic. All the others had been at least once.
Suppose it is best described as "skiing Jim, but not as those on MSE know it"
Unlike others we had no problems at airports, must have just hit lucky.
Good New Year to all, and a happy retirement to our latest to collect their pensions. Ski on.0 -
After our largely-unsuccessful Christmas away, and in this cold wet weather, we're organising our next 'away' trips. The SKI-ing that we're doing at the moment is up in the loft - job nearly completed but our contractor has had to go off and do someone's roof which was sheeted but now leaking. They'll be back to finish it Monday morning. 'Space Blanket' insulation up there, and it is toasty in this little house now. We've reduced the heating by a few degrees and we are lovely and warm. The goose-down duvet last winter was a good investment too - we are warm all night and warm indoors all day.
A month from now, a political conference held on a weekend in the Earl of Doncaster Hotel, Doncaster. Then June, Brackenhurst (Nottingham Trent University's School of Land-Based Studies, their annual awards ceremony). I expect I'll need a new dress, especially if they invite us as VIPs again. Hopefully I'll have managed to lose more weight - lost 10 pounds since last summer.
DH has been planning a holiday in the west of Ireland, places he's longed to see for many years. He used to pass by all the lovely places when he went over there on business years ago, and wants to see them with me. We looked at hotels, guest-houses, B&Bs. I wanted a hotel with a leisure centre but they are all too expensive, so we eventually settled for a family-run guest house called Crystal Springs, Killarney. DH booked by phone last evening, and there is a swimming pool with gym etc only 5 minutes away. Apparently there is some horse-racing on at the time we'll be there - I've never been to a horse race, we might do it! Something to look forward to this wet, cold, miserable weather.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Sounds great Margaret!
We have spent the first two weeks of my State Pension (which I will not have until February 1st!) on buying and paying to have installed a new double-glazed aluminium window for the side wall of one of the bedrooms in our Spanish house. It is one of the only two rooms that have a side wall- it is a later extension to the original house and is built onto the original flat roof. The lower partof the house is joined on both sides.
Anyway, this particular room has a small window at the back but seeing as it faces due north it never gets any sun and is always cold and dark.. So we thought a window facing east will get it some morning sun - also it will show another aspect of our magnificent view.
I would never normally dream of having aluminium windows in this house as it is mostly very traditional, but the top extension is far more modern and already has an aluminium sliding patio door out onto the roof terrace from the little front bedroom (which we use as our study).
Our builder is knocking the hole through to install it as I type.
That's our latest bit of SKI-ing!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0
