Good news, Sloan. watch your tax, though. I found myself on K code with no pers allowance, as did a friend.
Bit warmer here today. We went to the Ringling Museum. He was a circus man and the inspiration for 'The Greatest Show on Earth', which many ski-ers will recall.
He also built himself a fabulous mansion in the Venetian style, on the shore of the bay. Wow!
Still looking forward to being at home, though.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Its still good news Polly - Its thawing during the day and no snow is forecast for the South East. South West and Wales are promised a dumping today. Where do you live Polly? All quiet on the Gatwick front. Bon Voyage.member # 12 of Skaters Club

No snow here in my part of the South West just our usual RAIN. I know the snow has been horrendous for most of you, but my Darling Grandchildren would have loved to have seen more than the 1cm we have had last week. I know, I know, count ourselves lucky and all that, but still.................Away with the fairies.... Back soon0

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

A K code doesn't mean you don't have a personal allowance. It basically means that your untaxed income (such as your state pension which is not collected at source unlike personal pensions) is greater than your personal allowance.
For example if you were entitled to a state pension of £7000 your code would be K52 ( £6475 personal allowance minus £7000 state pension which equals minus £525)
A K code is perfectly normal for most retired women between 60 and 65 before the increased personal allowance kicks in.0 -
Just tuned in to talk to Pollypenny - You have probably found out that we got (and still getting) another load of snow at the moment. Gatwick was closed in order to clear the runways but I don't know any more yet. Will check on news in a few moments. Good Luckmember # 12 of Skaters Club

You will need to liaise with the tax office and get a tax code relative to getting OAP and give it to your private pension provider, or else they will tax it at ((Basic RateY.
Also. MW thought you were keeping the roads clear for us.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Sorry DG - did my best, but it snuck in during the night. Spent half of yesterday digging out my car, clearing all steps and walkways (including the street) and this morning I am back to square 1. Spitting tacks!!! Lucky Mr.Tesco called yesterday, I was getting low on everything. Hey Ho.
Pollypenny - Sorry Polly but Gatwick is still closed. I guess you can get the Gatwick website on your laptop. We-ve had about 2 inches again, so clear up should be swift. Its the ice that has remained from all the other dumpings that is the problem. It is half an inch thick on the pavement in front of my house.member # 12 of Skaters Club

Just checked the forecast, and apart from needing webbed feet, the temperatures for the journey should all be above Zero. Looks like we can proceed.
The forecast for the first 2 days after we arrive is sun and 13-14 not a heatwave, but better than snow!

I got away from Manchester about half an hour late and all parts of my journey went smoothly. I am here by myself, but have friends here. I have volunteered to help in the British library and hopefully am on an induction course next week. I have a couple of lunches planned and fancy the ladies' swimming and spa day at the Acapulco, but have not rung yet. I am also thinking of joining the gym which is just up the road. Not sure when my husband will arrive, but am quite happy with my own company, so not too worried, as long as I have a variety of things to fill my days! Sunny yesterday, but rather overcast today!sloan SKI-ers Club #10 :j0
