Another one one here who must tackle the weight, we eat healthier and take more exercise in Spain, so once we get there we will start, the wii fit is coming with us, and I am wondering whether to take this on! Never joined a sliming club, can't imagine been criticised when weight doesn't come off while following the rules, only time I have managed to lose was on a 800 calorie diet, and that is not life. At least this way I would not lose any money.

No, a 800-calorie diet is not life - it is not sustainable over the long-term. You have to have something you can live with. We live in the real world, are surrounded by food temptations every time we watch TV or go to a supermarket. Much of the food on offer is just rubbish - too processed, too many additives. However we do need to eat, so it's not easy to make the right choices and right decisions.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Yes, Savvy_Sue. North Yorkshire LEA has an outward bound centre a couple of miles away and they have a dry ski slope. They are trying to encourage local schools to use it without tying up their instructors ... so have been offering free training courses in 'being a sledging instructor' to local teachers. It was only half a day, but DD1 was really excited about it.sloan SKI-ers Club #10 :j0

Oh MC I can nearly say the calories from most everyday things. The 800 calorie diet was under a hospital dietician when I was 25, and at 10.5 stone said that was all I would lose, not that I would mind being 10.5 stone again!
I can handle the temptation, I do not eat junk or processed food, I cook from scratch, don't like pizza, curries, and have fish and chips as a rare treat, and then it is a small portion of chips shared between us, nor do I have no will power, I can have a piece of chocolate a day I do not have to finish the lot or finish a packet of biscuits if we have them in, and have even given up drinking apart from when with friends and have diet pop, flavoured water, etc. instead, but it damn boring and the best I achieve is a stability.
I admit I have a sweet tooth, but do control it, I supposed if I went to the gym of 8 hours a day it would burn some calories off, but I can think of nothing more boring, I'd rather go back to work!

Not brown - first week we spent shopping for DS and Christmas. Of course, two lovely afternoons were spent hearing about Strictly at a distance!

Thanks for update, MW. Already had to buy warm clothes, Donny. Thank god for Walmart, Target and J.C. Penney. DD said she has never been so cold.
Funny sort of ski-ing this has turned out!

Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

We went to Orlando during Christmas 1998 for our 25th WA with DS, we were very lucky, there was a total freeze all over America, and it stopped at the top of Florida and we were in very favourable weather, they lost the orange crop in California, lost power due to frozen lines, and ran out of hire cars in Florida due to everyone flying in to escape the freeze. Hope you keep warm, I think we are due for a slight improvement from Tuesday onwards.
MW are you OK?

He's back, safe and sound. Supposed to be moving out next week, but doesn't have a key, and I say he can't go before he's cleared his bedroom! Since he's relying on me taking his stuff over, this plan should work ... oh and he also needs me to buy him a bed! That's his Christmas present.I was wondering if DS1 was going to make it back from his (Alpine) skiing trip as Bristol airport has been operating only intermittently, but have just remembered he flew from Gatwick so is presumably due back there - tomorrow! :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

The village here has lost its orange crop this year. We had very heavy rain (as you have probably seen on the news) followed by a hurricane-force freezing wind straight off the top of the mountains and the oranges have simply frozen inside.
We personally have lost several of our cacti and succulents that are outside in pots. They sucked all the water up and stored it, as cacti do, and then came the wind and froze them. We have however, managed to save what we call our 'Goth' plant, a tall and assertive-looking black succulent - my husband brought it inside just in time because it was flowering.
All the water blew out of the fountains in the village, ran down the steep streets and froze.
There is snow on the mountains at about 1300 metres (our village is at 1050 metres). Northern Spain is covered in snow, like the UK.
Never say it is not cold in Spain!
As regards SKI-ing, we are paying for a flight and a night's hotel in Malaga for our son and his girlfriend. This is both their Christmas and birthday presents for 2010 (it's his 30th). We will collect them from the airport at luchtime and we'll all spend the rest of the day in Malaga (the old city is very nice), spend the night, do a bit more sightseeing the following day and then travel back to our house - three hour drive - in mid-afternoon.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Hi y'all - Yes DG I am fine. Been stuck in my house for a week. You know those front and back steps of mine, neighbour cleared the front drive but back steps still snowbound. Been snowing steadily for two days, a lot last night but much heavier forecast for today. Severe weather warning was issued last night for Kent. Did you see that Northern Spain has snow too? I sincerely hope it gets a little better in the coming weeks. What day do you set off DG?
Good luck with your trip Polly - British news is hopeless - they never say when the airports are working well just report the bad points. Gatwick is still open as far as I know, guess trying to get rid of their backlog. Hope your return is effortless.member # 12 of Skaters Club
